UT with a top 5 class. Would you bet $$ on it?

Too many variables for my taste to take that bet.

I believe we finish top five. Hell I believe our class improves from here to NSD on paper but some of these ranking services do weird stuff so IDK.

Rivals is the most transparent I think so they have 34 players remaining uncommitted in their top 100. For all those strong finishing teams under 20 commits right now I'd add in 200 points for each open spot. That's just a ball park that includes both the star points and the bonus points. Malone going from a 4 star to a 5 star is only worth 15 points but right now as a 6.0 ranked 30th in the rivals 250 he's worth 188 points and would replace a 5.7 90 point guy in our top 20. That's a net of 98 points. Garrett would net us 90 points added to our total and Adoree would net us 135 points. If we get those 3 we have a real good shot at finishing #2 even as everyone else fills out their classes using my estimate above. Not everyone will be able to sign a full class. Some signed very large classes last year and may not have enough attrition in the 85 to accommodate a new 25. Florida may have some hot seat issues. Also keep in mind some players are going to rise and fall with the pending rankings update. Anyway I think your bet is really about whether or not we land the three big fish we're after. Obviously at this point they'd move our needle the most.

Right now we have the following top 20 recruits on Rivals

1- 6.1 5*
3- 6.0 4*'s
3- 5.9 4*'s
10- 5.8 4*'s
3- 5.7 3*'s

Last year's #5 class (Michigan) had the following
1- 6.1 5*'s
3- 6.0 4*'s
6- 5.9 4*'s
7- 5.8 4*'s
3- 5.7 3*'s

I think it is fair to say we are going to at least add a few 6.1 or 6.0 caliber players to that list knocking off our bottom 3 three stars.

I think odds are in your favor to win that bet according to Rivals.

Other than Malone, who are the few 6.0 and 6.1 caliber players we will be adding?

I'd take the bet. IIRC, Rivals said that at least a couple of UT's 3* recruits will probably get a bump.

Since UT now has 17 commits rated 5.8 or higher according to Rivals (and since they are in serious contention for more), there is a reasonable possibility that all 20 kids included in Rivals' measurement for the Vols are 4* or 5* recruits.
