My wife and I are coming to Knoxville for our first time in November and our very first Tennessee game. We will be in town the whole weekend. We are looking for dinner recommendations ( steakhouses, sushi), places to get some Tennessee gear, things to go see in Knoxville.

Where should we park for the game?
What time and where should we go for the vol walk?

I added my instructions for parking and walking to another thread this morning. The times will vary due to different game start time.

A couple of places downtown takes reservations for lunch brunch depending on what you are looking for. One of my favorite places for Brunch is Cafe4. You can get a reservation there and then walk to campus for the festivities. If you go to Cafe4 and you partake in adult beverages then you and the wife should not be afraid to take on the Punch Bowl for 4 as it is same price as 2 drinks in stadium. Reservations for Cafe 4 will probably be available October 16 and will fill up. Make a reservation and you can always cancel.

Another option for a tailgate and the proceeds is a fundraiser near the law library. The people seem very friendly. My wife has always wanted to do this and we are going to do it for the Arkansas game….BBQ.

Check out my parking and walking directions here:

The best thing you can see in Knoxville is the sign that says, "Now leaving Knoxville." It isn't exactly a tourist Mecca.

We love good sushi. Few years back, we went to Nama on Gay Street. Enjoyed it very much.

FYI, we are not sushi snobs, but we know good sushi. In my work-related travels, I have had sushi in several cities...including Wilmington, NC, Charleston, SC, St. Louis, MO, Atlanta, GA, and a few others east of the Mississippi.. Nama was on point. At least it was back then. Local opinions probably trump mine.

Hope that helps.

Nama Sushi Bar on Gay Street is as good as you'll find anywhere. Park in the State Street garage at least 3 hours before the game and you'll get free parking. It's an easy walk to the stadium from there if you use the foot bridges on Clinch Ave. and 12th Street.

When we went down for the A&M game in 2023, all the places downtown were mobbed after the game, so we hung out until traffic out of town died a bit and found a place just off Kingston Pike in Cedar Bluff right by where we stayed called Finn's Tavern, located in an old (and allegedly haunted!) house, and had an incredible time. I did read it's under new ownership now, as the former owner came over and hung out and had a drink with us, just a great time.

As others have said, just get to town a few hours before game time and park in one of the downtown garages and walk to Neyland. You'll want to soak in all the pre-game activities anyway. Have a great time!

I second this, Nama is fantastic.
