Just interested in getting everyones opinion. I personally believe we will win but I am worried about stopping the run and being able to run against PSU.

Tennessee will win because Anthony Morelli isn't much of a threat to beat a defense that puts 7-8 in the box, allowing Chief to load the line and keep Tony Hunt from McFaddening us.

We did that against AR and couldnt stop them at all though.

Arkansas's offensive line is probably the best one in the country. Penn State has a 1st round pick at tackle in Levi Brown, but absolutely nothing else.

This is my fear though.
1 We cant stop the run up the middle
2 We cant run on their talented linebackers.

If we can stretch the field passing and move east and west a little too, I feel we should have a lot of success.

I feel like the Vols should win this one...

PSU is a solid team, and like ViA said, while Morelli isn't much of a threat as the Arkansas QB wasn't, their running game isn't exactly on the same level as Arkansas'.

Thinking a 3-7 point victory at least should be in order for UT.

Our Rushing D matches fairly well with their Off. rushing stats as well as the two kickers.

Penn's Rushing D will make it hard for us to run the ball. Where we have the significant advantage is the passing game and hopefully this will soften their run D.

I think UT will win by 7 if Ainge is on (can't float the ball) and spreads the ball around.

UT will win, but Ainge will need to be on. We won't have a great day running the ball, but he should be able to throw the ball down the field quite a bit on the PSU secondary.

Vols in a close one.

We havent run on any good team this year, so that wont be a problem. Plus, Coker isnt even starting so look for a lot of bubble screens and roll outs to the TEs to supplant the run game as is Cutty's style. Hunt is absolutely no mcfadden so that doesnt worry me as long as we know who to blitz...Ainge can throw on this defense, hes at 100% and look for meachem to demand the ball early and often to show off for the NFL scouts. Look for something a lot like the UGA game in terms of a tight game early and then our D to make some plays at the end. 34-21 ish UT.

Tid and VIA have already said this, but this year one of the things that have separated good teams from bad teams is the play of the qb.

we have the advantage at that position and should prove to be the difference in the end.

So long as we don't turn it over and give them short feilds or cheap points, we should be OK. PSU's defense is good though and it should be difficult for us to run against it. i expect screens, hitches, something that will try to negate the LB's on a blitz or run blitz.

we will load up to stop the run. Force AM to beat us over the top.

The Bret Smith situation just put a dent in this strategy.

You're right.KING and WALLACE were lucky to get scholarship offers and ended up at PENN STATE.They both wanted to play at SEC schools, but had to make it as walk-ons due to their 5.1 forty times. It was a fluke that #7 was a first team big ten safety and #6 couldn't start at most high schools in the SOUTH. AINGE should shred the pathetic STATE secondary just like PEYTON MANNING did.

Penn State went 8-4 in the Big Ten in an off year for the conference. They lost to every good team they played. Purdue who just got dismantled by Maryland was probably their best win. The Boilermakers along with 1AA Youngstown St were PSU's only wins against teams with a winning record. Their only other win against a bowl team was Minnesota who just lost to TTU to finish 6-7.

IMO, UT should win and it shouldn't be that close. They have the better players and at least as good in coaching (No consideration of the HC's)

PSU's defense benefited from a weak schedule. Their offense did nothing against anyone with a pulse.

Anything can happen in football... but Ainge should be able to rip their secondary and the running game should be better than you guys expect... if it is needed at all.

Just as a reminder, UT's defense grew up against Arkansas. They got raped in the first half but allowed only 3 points in the second. They effectively slowed Arkansas' running game in that half as well. PSU doesn't have a run game that compares to Arkansas. UGA would be somewhat closer but I don't think PSU is as good as the Dawgs either.

um, houston nutt calling off the dogs (hogs if you will) made quite the difference in that second half as well

The most comparable team to UT that PSU played was Notre Dame, and the domers crushes the Lions.

It is supposed to rain like pouring piss out of a boot before, during, and after the game. Plus, there will be an NFL game played on the field tomorrow. That = a big advantage to the team that can pound the ball running it down the other's throat, and helps to negate our speed advantage. Now, sans B. Smith, and this game isn't looking to be a lock like I thought.

When it rains, the real only advantage goes to the offense. Slipping and sliding will happen, but is the offense that knows where the ball is going. So my advise is to stop the run attack by all means possible, double team Hunt, get 2 TDs ahead, and play cover 2 all day on a sucass PSU team. Good luck yall. Go SEC

Nutt didn't call off the dogs. He played his first team O throughout the second half.

but they were definitely in protect mode all second half, unlike the first half where they were constantly attacking our D. time management techniques to just chew away the clock

Tied the domers through 3 in the midst of a horrible season, then lost in the 4th in self-destruct mode.

How's the domers doing in their matchups against teams with a pulse?
