First and foremost, everyone keep the people in New Orleans and Mississippi in our prayers. This is a truly sad time in our country. :( May God be with them.

Anyway...Does anyone know if the rumors about the LSU game possibly being moved here this year and there next year are true? I have heard this from a couple of different people...This would work out a lot better for our team since it would keep us from having to play at UF and at LSU on back to back weeks.

God Bless and Go Vols

Nothing yet, both AD's have talked but so far it's just to touch base

If LSU was in Knoxville this year, would the season ticket holders still get their regular seats? I wonder how that would work....

I have flights to an airport that is under 10 feet of water in New Orleans :banghead:

I can't imagine them doing this. Maybe they will......but It would shock me. It's still 3 weeks until the game. Surely Baton Rouge will be ready for the Vols fans by then. I can't imagine the logistics of the ticket situation. Would they honor the tickets for this year's game, NEXT season in Tiger Stadium? That's about the only thing I can see them doing, except for letting people trade those in at the box office on gameday for tickets in Neyland, and then just selling what's left to people walking up. It would be a HUGE mess.

HAMILTON COMMENT ON UT-LSU GAME

"At this time, the LSU game is scheduled for Sept. 24 in Baton Rouge. If that changes, we will let our fans know immediately."

I'll see him later today (Thursday). I'll try to ask him, although I'm sure his answer won't be very telling unless an announcement has already been made.

You guys beat me to the punch. I live in BTR. Cable has been up and down since the storm, but I was going to start a thread about the game. I know that many of you have hotel reservations, etc for the game. Baton Rouge is a MESS right now. We have so many displaced people. All hotels are full, all evacuation centers full, looking for more. People are buying up houses that have been on the market for a year, sight unseen. The New Orleanians need a place to live. It would be a good thing to move the game out of here in my opinion.

I am a travel agent. You cannot get a flight in or out on many days. We just don't have the capacity right now to absorb the traffic from the New Orleans airport. We are looking to increase flights and bring in other airlines who serviced N.O. previously. There is NO WAY the N.O. airport will be open. I mean think about it. There won't be any power or running water in the city for MONTHS. It may take 90days to get the breach in the levee fixed and the water drained from the city. Even if commerical flights were able to be reinstated where would the employees who work there live? And most of the roads around there have been under water. Who knows if they will be structurally sound when the water drains? N.O. is built on a drained swamp.

If you planned to come to the game and were driving, you would have to cross Mississippi. Many of the roads in the south that crossed bays and waterways have been destroyed by the tidal surge. A 25ft wall of water. How would you manage to get here? In my opinion it would be a good thing to move the game.

And sadly, many many many of the LSU ticket holders lived in New Orleans. Who knows where they will be in 3 weeks and even if they will have a way to a game. Just imagine this... my friends evactuated as always, in event of a bad storm. Didn't happen last year with Ivan, we dodged the bullet. But they left again this year... just in case. Figuring that they would be gone a couple of days they only brought 3 sets of clothes. Now all their other clothes are under water. It is mind boggling. They literally have what is on their backs.

Please continue to pray for the citizens who were affected by Hurricane Katrina, and if you wish to make a donation, the officials of our state are asking for cash donations to the Red Cross.

Thanks to all of you for your concern, your prayers, and your support!

I don't want my responses to this thread to seem that I care more about the game than I do the people affected by this, but this is a Tennessee Sports message board and I am curious about the discussion surrounding this game on the schedule.

Is there ANY chance that LSU decides to forfit all the games on their schedule and not even play football this year? I mean think about it. If Baton Rouge is this involved in this disaster (and face it, they are), then how could they possibly be able to play football games there AT ALL this season?

The BEST case would be for them to play games somewhere else, but would they play all thier games on the road? Would they find a "neutral" place to play games further away? Would it be economically feasible for them to pay for the team to travel every single week to simply "play a football game"?

I realize that football is a big buisness for the state and the University, but is it WORTH all the hassle?

I was wondering about the actual tickets held by people who live or work in the flooded areas. I imagine there are many tickets physically demolished, so will those LSU fans be able to get into the game to watch their Tigers?

I know it's not anywhere near the top of their worries, but there are bound to be people who paid big money to see the game and might enjoy a little football 3+ weeks from now, so I hope for their sake, they work out a process! :cross:

Well, for SEC Standings, if the game was "cancelled", wouldnt one team have to "forfeit" it?

Just looking at the fact that the Saints are looking to Tiger Stadium as a possible place to play NFL games, I would say that the LSU game would stand. At least for now.

Who knows? It hasn't even been MENTIONED on the news here. But... we have FEMA, Red Cross, etc, etc, etc, living in hotels. Where would they go? The repercussions are slowly coming into focus. They say that BTR will double in size by next month! We need more police, living spaces, the roads are blocked with traffic crawling at snails pace. We are all numb with the enormity of what we see on tv... people trying to find lost relatives, etc.

Please keep praying for us, and KNOW that our guys and our fans ARE still interested in Football! We do need to have some fun!

I am certain that they can print out tickets on the computer at the ticket window. UPC scan thing and all! I've walked up and gotten my baseball tickets reissued whey they upgraded my seats. Only difference is that they are plain and in black and white. Not a problem, I'm sure. But you are right.... the tickets are probably under water for those New Orleans fans.

That system will only work for ACTUAL SEASON TICKET HOLDERS.

What about the thousands that bought from brokers or received tickets from season ticket holders?

This is truly an awful situation.

Just saw where two Tiger's players can not locate thier parents.

I just don't think that football is important enough for these kids to play this soon after this tragedy.

Let's pray that they are in a shelter somewhere and unable to get word to their families. Cell fones in N.O. are useless, and by now batteries would have rundown anyway.

There were some games moved last year here in Florida due to canes. If BR can get back on its feet by October, its still doable.

LSU has an off week Oct 29th. Tennessee plays S. Carolina that week. LSU's last game of the regular season is Nov 26th, just one week before the SEC CG. There won't be another date to play the game, and still hold the conference title game on Dec. 3.

Maybe they could buy out Appy St. and play a remake on that day, but that is Nov. 5th, and Tennessee will be in South Bend.

The situation in the area is so untenable that I doubt Baton Rouge could handle the added stress of a major event.

I'll be shocked if the game is played on that date.

Neither team has an open date that matches, so that's out of the question. Kentucky, SC, or Vandy could just go ahead and forfiet to us and we could play LSU in their spot. :biggrin2:
