Why isn't the UT and Bama game held in Birmingham anymore? The last time the game was played in that stadium was in 1997. Does UAB have anything to do with this? Was the game held in UAB's stadium or something?

well Legion Field is completely run-down and is in a terrible part of town. also id say the UT-Bammer fan ratio leaned to Bama significantly. Similar to the Iron Bowl

Legion Field is now a dump of a stadium....I don't believe they can even use the upper deck & bama spent a lot of money updating bryant denny stadium over the last several years.

That is the worst stadium I have ever personally been to and I have been to many including the old orange bowl...Ugh...Nasty place and in one of the worse ghetto's you have ever seen....Had to be really careful were you parked your car around there lol...Come back and parts would be missing or the entire thing at times....not a very good stadium to see a game at really, tuscaloosa isn't much better but its is better than birmingham.

Your right Tuscaloosa is a horrible place to watch a game............... if your wearing orange. That being said, the "Old Grey Lady" is on her last leg. I would be surprised if they play the PapaJohns.com Bowl there again this year.

They say they are eventually gonna tear it down and build a dome!

Yeah, Birmingham is bankrupt from the whole sewer issue, but Larry Langford is still talking of building a dome stadium and indoor driving range. Dont see it happening in my lifetime as the courts have just declared the occupational tax Birmingham has charged for years unconstitutional. They are saying now that they will have to lay off a large percentage of city workers, just to keep their heads above water. Looks like they better slap another coat of paint on "The Old Gray Lady".

What's it near?
Posted via VolNation Mobile

Just west of downtown. Bad neighborhood for sure.

They took down the upper deck that was on the east side.

UAB plays there and they have a few other games per year there. It's a true dump - the city let it go.

Semi off topic, but what is a game in Tuscaloosa like? It seems on TV that UT fans always travel in numbers to T-town. Are the fans rude?

Legion field----a total dump, in the middle of the birmingham ghetto. Too dangerous to play there anymore.

I was there the year before last for that debacle. It started with their onside kick that made our special teams look foolish and continued as we proceeded to make JPW look like the second coming of Joe Namath. I was surrounded by Bama fans. I was polite and they were to. I was pissed after the game and just waiting for someone to say something as I walked back to the car. Nobody said a thing to me.

Bad traffic. Nice stadium except for the ramps to the upper deck. They seem to go on forever. I would go back.

PS: I would be happy if I never heard rammer jammer again.

Do you mean rammer jammer probation Alabama?

The antidote to rammer jammer is 45 renditions of Rocky Top.

In my experience, most bama fans are pretty good. The stadium is very nice due to rennovation and expansion.

Pretty nice stadium, those ramps do seem to go on forever though! Only problem I had there was two years ago when a UT player went down some 12 year old bama fan behind me started screaming cry-baby and what not. Of course I'm sure the kid did not realize he was calling a 6-4 260 lb DE a cry baby......

I went to the Alabama/Tennessee game many years ago when Tennessee pulled it out in 6OTs. My buddy was a bama fan so he invited me to the game when they got tix. Everyone was real nice from what i remember. Of course I was only 15 or so at the time.

They played at Legion becuase the capacity was more. Once UAT added seats to BD they quit playing at Legion.

It seems that we, as most teams do, have 90% polite fans and 10% that are rude and obnoxious. And sadly, it's usually the 10% that people will remember. Reverse the percentages for LSU fans.
