I guarantee UK will play defense tomorrow night.
other than Florida (which mopped the floor with KY jelly) who have they played. And more over, who have they beaten in any formidable fashion? Mind you UT has beaten number two twice and throttled Texas.

It's disingenuous to act like the Texas team we beat is the group we see now. As for Kentucky, the last time I looked, West Virginia is at the top of by far the best conference in the country. Kentucky put the stop on them. Everyone is suddenly acting as if the Vols are the '76 Indiana or '90 UNLV team. Perspective, people, perspective.

I am really torn on this. While UT I think is a bit better than UK, UK's back is up against the wall. They need a big win and you guys would be it. With homecourt advantage they will be tough to beat.

Honestly, it would not surprise me to see either team come out and lay a whuppin' on the other. Somebody gets hot and scores a bundle. Going to be a fun game, I think.

I will tell you a few years back Florida went into Rupp ranked number one and flying high. That crowd erupted and Kentucky blew out the Gators by about 20. Florida was running in mud. The Gators did not recover that year at all. Mediocre from that point forward. It is a dangerous place for a team that can't take it. This is where Pearl earns his salary.
Well put Lawdog

Pearl has earned his salary if the Vols don't win another game.

Gonna have the same thinking I did for the Florida game... just want the Vols to keep it close in a hostile environment. Like lawgator said in another thread, UK isn't bad, they're just not consistent. If the Vols can keep it close throughout, anything can happen, just like in the Florida game.

Good man! Its hard to get a ticket in Rupp. Even harder to make the trip to Lex in the middle of the week...

I went to college at a small school in KY and my buddy has two tickets to Rupp...couldn't pass it up...GO VOLS

I'll be elated if they win. The only way I'll be disappointed is if they lose big. I, like others believe they are better than UK, but a win in Rupp is hard to come by. Uk will be ready, and their fans will be tremendous. The only way we can win big is to take the crowd out early.

The defenses have similar numbers, HOWEVER, we lead the conference in scoring offense and steals. Edge goes to TN based on the numbers... that said, it's in Rupp, which in my mind can make it a push. The key is for us to get off to a quick start.

If I'm not mistaken UK has played 5 teams that are or have been in the top 25. UT will be #6. I like our chances about as much as a one legged man's in a butt kicking contest.

The thing about this game is the UT presses and Kentucky loves being pressed just ask Florida Sparks beat their press by himself and if he gives the ball up to Rondo in the open court who will just kill UT defense....UT has not answer for Morris...Perry will be able to guard Bradshaw...Perry could have a huge game on the offensive end...Lofton will have Rondo on him where ever he goes and since Lofton cannot create his own shot it could be a long night for him...I'm taking UK and there defense,Rupp Arena, and Tubby to beat UT by 10 or more

Kentucky struggles on defense when there is a strong Power Forward playing on the other team. We are just soft at the 4. I agree that it will probably be a defensive struggle.

Either way, I'm looking forward to it. May the best team win! (Wildcats, anyway!) :)

Arkansas got out to an 18 point lead at Rupp using the press, easily causing Rondo and Sparks to turn it over. ???

After careful analysis, it is with great sadness that I now present Downtown Vol's Crystal Ball, Mark IV:

Kentucky 77
Tennessee 70

God, I hope I'm wrong. But I look at it this way: this game is just about a must-win for Kentucky. They're miles from the Top 25 after the Florida blowout, and if they lose to UT at Rupp, they're in serious danger of the unthinkable: not going to the Big Dance. Plus, they've still gotta come to Knoxville (where I think we will win, and possibly win big), plus travel to Vandy and host Florida. They don't have the firepower to blow us out, but Morris definitely makes a difference - Sparks and Rondo shoot the ball better when they don't feel like they HAVE to shoot well for UK to win.

I am not going to predict the game, I am just going to say that we are the better team, and there is no way sparks will be able to gaurd lofton...

Tubby is ready. I was just reading what he had to say to say about our team, especially Watson and Lofton. When talking about those two he said...

Smith said Watson, a senior from Las Vegas, "has been one of my favorite players since he's been in the league.

"He has the ability to play under control, he's long and he defends you. His assist-to-turnover ratio is one of the best in the conference (it's No. 2 behind teammate Dane Bradshaw), his demeanor on the court -- he never gets rattled -- and he's got the (second-)most steals in the SEC.''

Lofton, the sophomore from Maysville, Ky., was snubbed by the Wildcats, despite being a prep legend in the state.

"Chris has developed the complete game,'' Smith said. "He's not just shooting the ball, but defending as well.''
Overall, Tubby respects this team. He admires their hard work and won't take us for granted. He knows it's going to be a battle.

Whatever you guys. If Ky can't face that they are not a good team than that is thier problem. We are better than they are and should win the game. They are down on talent from poor recruiting. So they beat WVa, we balance that with wins over texas and fl. We played a tough shcedule so far and I think that UT is the better team. If you guys are afraid to say it, fine. I think UT wins in a close game for the most part, but in the end KY will fade and UT will win.

UT 88
KY 79

UK has won last 5/6 . Last 8 over UT I think.Watson and Lofton have to be on, possibly 40 points between them is how I see a victory. More pressure on UK though siting 5-3 in conference.

Nobody on this team has beaten UK. This is also the 200th meeting between UT and UK. Let's get the 200's started off right.
