UT/UF game could be in Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta

The wind damage in Gainesville is pretty extensive. I read that up to 75% of the county is without power!

That's the one thing that could force this game to be moved, yep.

Gonna be a lotta chain saws run by a lotta volunteers over the coming days to clear roads and power lines, and a lot of repairs to be made to the grid.

If power is largely restored by Tuesday afternoon (isn't Tuesday evening the decision point for SEC?), I think we play in Gainesville.

If it's still widely blackout then, the game will move.

So Gavol, if we don't hear anything by Wednesday can we just assume the game is going to be played as scheduled?

That'd be what I would guess, but who knows? Haven't seen any reports on how Gainesville did. The storm should be just about past them by now. Here in central GA, everybody is losing power and it's a complete mess yet it hasn't blown much above 40 yet. Supposed to blow about 60 in a couple of hours.

Hope you guys stay safe and don't have any more damage. I can't remember when a tropical storm has come this far inland

It's going to suck, but we're about 10-20 mph less than was being projected a couple of days ago. Just saw where Atlanta is under a Tropical Storm Warning for the first time in history.

Florida classes cancelled til Wednesday and maintenance personnel are also to stay at home and return Monday. No matter what, the Gators will only have 3 1/2 days to get ready for a huge game. I copied this from their website this morning:

Assuming facilities are in playable condition, practice fields can be utilized, and roads will be cleared in time and the proper security and staffing can be present at the games — a lot to ask for following a hurricane — the Florida teams would have a maximum of four days to prepare for their respective rivalry games.

The 2001 UF-UT game was pushed back from the third week in September to Dec. 1 following the 9/11 attacks along with the rest of the league’s schedule that week; however, as such, the SEC Championship Game was also delayed an additional week back to Dec. 8.

Florida and Tennessee do not share an open date with the Gators off on Oct. 21, the week before facing Georgia, and the Volunteers off on Oct. 7. Florida and Tennessee face their permanent cross-division rivals (LSU and Alabama, respectively) on one another’s open dates, making any schedule adjustment difficult. They also do not face a nonconference opponent on a shared date.

Should the game need to be moved, a change of facility with the game still being played on Sept. 16 rather than a different date would certainly be a possibility. Considering the reduced preparation time if the game is indeed played next week and the fact that the Gators would need to travel for a “home” game for the second straight season if it is played away from Gainesville, Florida would certainly be up against some additional adversity.

UF has seen two games canceled and one game postponed due to weather in the last four seasons.

I hope they recover and injuries or hardships are minor for the community. Tennessee will also have some difficulty finding a place to stay and practice near the stadium I would think. A lot of people from South Florida evacuated to Gainesville and are being told to stay out of South Florida until emergency crews clear live power lines, debris, glass, and other hazards.

It s not just Irma and dammages from it but the next Hurricane moving in also, Damages in and around the cities, electricity, Water, Food, Transportation. Alot involves the game staying in gainsville. I doubt its played there. No way its moved to Knoxville. Best bet right now it will be in Atlanta jmo

Would another Monday night game in Atlanta be a possibility? I know it would be far from ideal for attendance.

Or if they can get things safely done Monday in Gainesville? I wish we knew the options on the table.

Easy solution as far as future scheduling going forward would be to make Vanderbilt or Georgia the 3rd game of the season and make Florida the last game or next to last game of the season. I know Florida probably doesn't want to do that though because of their precious end of the year beat down from FSU.

Or no home games in the state of Florida until October

But that ain't happening

I would be okay with the game played in December in Gainesville and having the SEC Championship game moved back.

he said they are preparing as if the game is going to be played in Swamp, you can interpret that a couple different ways if you ask me

He actually said he fully anticipates them playing in Florida

Florida lost a home game last year, already lost a home game this year, I seriously doubt UF wants to lose a third home game in less than two seasons.

Let's hope this thing keeps weakening and it's a moot point by Saturday. Heck, if they need another day or two, move it to Sunday or Monday night in Gainesville.
They really didn't lose the game they get LSU at home back to seasons. And they won at LSU so it's a win win for Fla
