UT-UAB game thread

BYU 35 - UCLA 0 with 6 minutes left in the second quarter. Just to hae some prespective on how bad we were, and how this win looks.

I think the Jury is now in on Cromption: HE'S OUR QUARTERBACK!! He looked extremely efficient. Guys, he's just going to keep getting better and better. I'd rather have Crompton leading this team than anyone else in D-1 (Including Tebow). Crompton's a Volunteer at heart, and he has the talent to be one of our greatest.

Is that you, Phil?

The tickets were bought but it didn't look nearly like a full house today. I was watching from my living room though. How full was it really by the time the game got going good?

well.. I would have liked to have seen the passing game working a lot better this week. That didnt really happen. The run game looked good though so at least there is a little hope for this season. It was good to see fulmer more fired up for this game. Hopefully this continues into the florida game.

I'm not too sold on the running game because we had UAB wore out in the second half, but it was still nice seeing some ground yardage.

run the ball, execute on offense, keep FL offense off the field, keep the ball moving, keep the penalties down, and keep the crowd in the game... vols fans are the greatest fans in college football.. fans really do have a lot to do with how the players play... let go vols kick some gator a$$

Hey, that assignment is way, way too big for our coaching staff.

I didn't know they were getting this game in Bizarro world.

My "never see the light of day" legs are now sun burnt.

Is it just me or does Crompton seem to only focus on 1 receiver, kinda giving away who he's passing to?

It's hard to tell from the stands but was there some iffy snaps today?

everytime he throws the ball

Even though it's not necessarily his doing, Crompton is not ready to lead a team. His accurate throws are too few and far between, and he just doesn't seem to be able to make good decisions. He can't find the open receiver or, if he does find them, he doesn't seem to have the confidence to pass it on target. If nothing else, the young man needs to learn to throw the ball away and quit thinking he has scrambling ability.

I know, I know. He's young, inexperienced, and essentially a "Junior" rookie. It is for these reasons that I get to the point of my post.

I don't know about anyone else, but I felt more comfortable in the few minutes that Nick Stephens was behind center than I did all game. He only threw a few passes, but he looked so much more comfortable back there. If Fulmer is going to start one of his multiple "inexperienced" QB's, why not start Stephens who at least has a few more years to hone his skills. At this rate, Crompton won't be comfortable until halfway through this season which is too late for matchups with Florida, Auburn and Georgia. If this is the case, Crompton has 1 good year before we start all over with another "inexperienced" QB.

Let Nick Stephens Play! He can't do any worse than Crompton (no offense, J.C.). It's just that UT staff needs to look ahead for a change. With regard to the QB position, they have to work a younger player into the lineup BEFORE his Junior year so that he is ready to play bigtime SEC football by his Junior/Senior years. This is the only way the Vols can have any chance of competing for another National Title.

I'm sorry, Jonathon C. It's not your fault. Your coaches should have got you more reps in while you had a Senior like Ainge around to give you advice and encouragement.

I'll stop my rant now get off of my soapbox.

GO VOLS!!!!

Welcome to the board. For a minute there I was trying to figure out when I typed all of that.

I'll pass too. Id rather have Gerald Jones at QB.

I'm all for the younger, more talented player stepping up, but Jones is too valuable as a receiver.

Jones should definitely be included in more "trick" plays where he ends up throwing the ball downfield.

Thanks. Glad to be here. It's tough being a Vol in GA, especially when you're only an hour or so from Auburn too. I need to vent somewhere!
