UT System Wide- New Smoking Policy

I guess when a majority doesn't want the smell of a stupid smoker... They can change the rules...

Outside or not... Second hand smoke effects more than just the smoker.

Also, I wouldn't call the politicians changing the rules the "majority". I don't recall voting on any changes to a smoking policy.

What's so hard about walking an extra 25 feet? I don't want to breathe smoke every time I enter or exit a building. People do it anyway, but it's like running the gauntlet of smokers. I have to hold my breath while I walk into a building.

Smokers have a right to smoke, as long as it doesn't infringe on the rights of others. Hasn't that always been the way freedom is supposed to work in this country? An extra 25 feet isn't going to hurt anyone. I couldn't care less about the health implications of second-hand smoke. I just don't want to smell that ****, or have that smell on me.

news flash. We have not been truly free for a long time. :eek:hmy:

doesn't mean I can't hope it changes. Just surprised college students are so against it. What happened to sex, drugs, rock n roll and the man is holding us down?

The liberal school system has turned them into light weight pansies that are in touch with their feelings and careful not to offend anyone.

I hope I now have your support in banning body spray/perfume/cologne since most of that stuff smells like crap. I just don't want to smell that ****, or have that smell on me.

My thoughts are this, if the do-gooder politicians are dead set on correcting our poor health just go ahead and ban cigarettes already and see what happens. Stop pretending like you are doing this for the good of smokers when this is really about taxing people more and more.

And my thoughts to all those that don't care about smokers, you will be next. The amount of smokers is dwindling every year. What do you think the do-gooders will do when all that tax revenue shrinks? They are going to look for some other "unhealthy" habit to tax. Alcohol, unhealthy food.... I bet you guys won't be to happy when they are taxing your sodas because it isn't "healthy" for you.

As a smoker, I've grown accustomed to these type rules. We smokers could be a little more courteous sometimes.
i get especially annoyed by people who trash up smoking areas by throwing the butts just anywhere they please...

It chaps me more that people just blindly follow politicians because they get on some "we are looking out for you" tirade

Tax second hand farts because they are bad for everyone. You should have to stand at least 50 feet from doorways to fart so you don't offend the smokers at 25 feet.

Second had smoke does affect others. My neighbor is a chain smoker and is always in his backyard smoking. I can't even go outside my house without gagging, even on a windy day. Smoke travels like you wouldn't believe. I'm a reformed smoker, and have an allergic reaction to smoke. It definitely affects others. Most smokers are very insensitive to their surroundings. They don't realize how it affects others and most don't care.

Sometimes I think so because we have many times in the past posted nearly the exact same things.

Where do I sign?

But seriously, I definitely support the right of an employer to ban these things and send non-compliant employees home from work.

That's essentially what UT is doing, except they are telling their "clients" they can't smoke either, rather than just their employees.
