UT students return tickets

I heard that at some point football tickets were separated from the activity fee because enough students complained about paying the fee who never wanted to go to games so it wasn't fair to them (who these people are I have no idea...they weren't at UT during my time there). The activity fee was left to cover other things so in theory maybe it should have gone down but I have no idea if that happened.

Bottom line, students now have the activity fee and have to pay for tickets to watch a team that is not nearly as good as the teams we had so you're getting screwed for sure.

On the bright side, you're young and in college and I'm old and at work so there is that. Can't have it all.:hi:

Interesting. I am not sure exactly what our activity fee covers these days. I figured it covered football and it got us a discounted rate.

Anyway.

Folks want winners!

You are probably correct. I honestly could remember what the fee covered and probably just thought it was paying for the tickets. :hi:

I believe it is used to fund the non-revenue producing sports (many on the women's side). Also access to the facilities at UT like gyms, workout rooms, etc.

Yes we got free tickets back then but it would not have been an issue paying $70/yr for season tickets (that means a student has to stick $10 max in a box each month to pay for them). UT was also one of the last SEC schools to make students pay. Had to end sometime

I don't remember paying one in 98-01 timeframe maybe I did.

97-01 for me, and yeah I don't remember either...but I do remember that you couldn't pay me to keep me away from the games. Different times for sure. I blame the internet.

Makes you worry about Troy and Kentucky attendance.

I know this horse has been beaten but just puts it in perspective.

During my time there classes were relatively empty on Thursday and Friday of a big home game, of course we occasionally won against SEC teams too so theres that aspect.

I thought at the time, Vandy was the only other school to give free student tickets, but I just checked, and apparently USC tickets are free too. That will change, now that their football program is worth a damn.

Auburn tickets are $116 for the season, according to this non-scientific article.

Well if the Vols did pull off an upset and the students risk a chance of being shot by KPD for flooding the field after the game, I can understand.:loco:

Student here...

We don't want to go because we are pretty sure we are going to lose. Throw in the fact that many of us have midterms this week and the next, and watching the vols lose doesn't seem like a good way to spend time.

Optimism can only go so far folks.

This is a bit complicated, I think.

The current system has students 'reserve' tickets, then at the end of that period, you buy them. Most of the students probably reserved tickets and just never purchased. "Returned" is a bad way to put it.

Judging from the past, most reserved prior to the Miss St. game and then just didn't buy them after.

I they are going to complain about not having enough tickets for the florida game, they need to show everyone that they will fill the seats.

This is accurate. Kind of.

For home games, you must buy them at the time that you "reserve" them.

But then after the initial claim period, there is an open purchase period. So if they passed this period, then they simply weren't purchased because there wasn't enough demand.

If I remember right this was just for away games when I was a student, home game tickets were given at the time of purchase. I never remember "reserving" anything but away games.
