The University of Tennessee confirms that there is an NCAA review under way. University Administration and Athletics are cooperating fully.

We are concerned about the alleged activities of some members of the Orange Pride. Both university and NCAA guidelines are a part of the Orange Pride's orientation and training. If those guidelines were violated, we will take appropriate action. Because of federal student privacy regulations, we can't comment further.

Orange Pride is one of three student admissions groups that serve as ambassadors for the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Orange Pride's responsibilities include staffing university-wide admissions programs, providing campus tours, and hosting prospective athletes and their families. There are 75 students, both men and women, in the group. These ambassadors interact with hundreds of students across the campus.

Hopefully this was a spur of the moment choice to go see a recruit play 3 hours a way with out UTs knowledge of the trip

How exactly is that even a violation on our part?

Lane can't control people who are fans of this university, only the people involved in the football program.

Orange Pride members are on scholarship and therefore have to be knowledgeable of NCAA rules.

by the NCAA standards....thanks

a review is just an inquiry.

an investigation is when the review comes up with some possible dirt.

essentially in order for it to be an 'investigation' the NCAA has to send a letter to UT letting them know an investigation is taking place.

the difference is pretty much just a formality, but still a difference.

What if they find that the visit was against the NCAA rules, however, CLK and others were found unknowledgable? How would that affect the school?

The NY Times is just looking for dirt that's not there. They need to stay up in new york city and drop this nonsense story.

It wouldn't be a Lane Kiffin violation, it would be a university issue, because the hostesses are employed/on scholarship by the university.

For example, I work at the University of Washington. Because I'm a UW employee, it would technically be a violation if I were to go to say, a Skyline H.S. game with a sign that said "JAKE HEAPS, COME TO UW". However, unless the university told me to do so, I highly doubt there would be any serious issue.

NYTimes is not the greatest sports authority, I read their paper because of their superior writing on domestic and international issues, but sports, ESPN does a better job

Where was the NCAA at when Arthur Brown was recruiting Bryce Brown to Miami?

Brown was under scholarship by the university of Miami.

Oh wait, they are brothers so that is OK but a student at Tennessee cant go to see a HS football game to see a friend and bring a sign. Whos to say that sign was for a recruit and not for perspective students interested in attending UT? Her job is to promote the university right? Good job NYT and NCAA you are both going to make yourselves look dumb.:clapping:

one Vol fan has posted that the hostess involved was from South Carolina and went back home to South Carolina to visit family and took a couple friends and they went to ballgame. Whether this is true or not I don't know, but that would explain it.

if they were official representatives of ut, then they can't go recruit kids off campus. the real issue, IMO....is if they were actually sent by the university or not.

Unless the the NCAA can prove the hostess involved in visiting or the ones said to be contacting the recruits were directly told to do so by the school no penalty other then a secondary violation for monitoring would be levied. The concern though is if the NCAA finds that the hostesses acted as a represenative of the school, whether directed or not, the recruits in question could become prohibited from attending UT. This involve other recruits then the ones from USC.

This already happened in the Big12 if I remember correctly. Two men who were members of a university fan club that was officially recognized by the university went to a local HS game. They wore sweatshirts for the college they support and spoke with the recruit after the game. Even though there was no proof that they were actually recruiting the player, but because they were members of an organization that the NCAA recognized them being in a position to represent the university, the recruit became ineligible to attend that school.

Negatron!!!!!! Not on Scholly, are paid by the hour by the University. Therefore, the rules are in front of them and they must pass a simple test, but not neccessary. The only way a rule was broken is if UT paid for them to go to the game. This has Spurrior slime smeared all over it. Those gas pumping fans in the stands didn't like seeing the pretty girls with the UT signs. A bunch of BS is what it is!

That wouldn't be. If UT officials knew about the trip before hand and/or directed the trip; it would be.
