OK then maybe he can just stay at Auburn and he will coach against us next year. You people think a DC who has not had a head coaching gig before can't coach. Well last time i checked Kirby is doing ok. I rather have Brett Venables the DC from Clemson. I want a high energy guy who will get after these players and keep them playing at a high level.
If Butch Jones can get to 9-4 twice, surely Steele could do the same. Not that I want him, but he is a better coach than Butch and more than likely would have a better staff as well.
To be fair, the Big XII at that time was much much stronger than it is now. Solich was still at Nebraska who was still in the conference and played for a natty a year or so after crushing our defending national champions, Oklahoma won a Natty and played for another, Kansas State was at its peak under Bill Snyder, and OK State was turning the corner with a younger Les Miles. They were considered on level with the SEC and Colorado was much better. He went 9-36 with strong Baylor teams in a weak conference.
Averages 2.25 wins per year.
Therefore,
3-9
2-10
1.75-10.25
