UT ranks 56th in SN preseason poll

Why does the HFC need to be able to run the AD?

There are a lot of bowls and winning in the WAC is not all that impressive.

IIRC, the NFL resume shows a demotion from OC to TE coach after sticking with the same HC who flopped in the NFL.

Saban is the recruiter.

I like you, mba. Never met you, but I like you. We'd probably get along on the golf course, and at the 19th hole.

We differ on the Dooley hire. One of us, time will prove right.

You're an alum. I'm not. But I grew up in the shadow of Neyland Stadium, and I was a Vol Fan from the point where I thought I understood what it meant to "be a Vol".

Like you, I have suffered throught the lean years, and celebrated the great ones. I was deployed on a U.S. Navy sub, doing things I still can't talk about, when the Vols won the '98 N/C. Never have I been prouder of my Vols, extending back to the Sugar Bowl win against the "Mighty 'Canes"...

2001 and 2005. I would have tied the knot in Fulmer's rope. It was time...past time, IMO...for Fulmer to go. Sad that everyone but him saw that.

My point is this: Either you're a Vol fan, or you're not. I believe you are. You might not a Dooley fan, but you are still a Vol fan.

So...wait until Dooley proves he's not the right man for the job. Then pile on. You'll have plenty of company. Me included.

Until then, give the man the same support you gave other coaches who were less worthy of your support, huh?

Go Vols.

That's well-written. I have a lot of respect for you and your service, Grey Wolf.

I grew up in Tennessee as well and definately don't think you need to be an alum to be a Vols fan.

I'll try to back off. I've tried a few times, but I just keep failing. It's my bad.

And, for the record, I hope everyone who thinks CDD will turn the program around is right. I'm not one of the talking heads on TV who'd rather be right than to be happy for my team. As most of you know, my fear is about UT waiting too long to pull the trigger in the event this doesn't seem to be happening.

I don't feel CDD was qualified for this job and my biggest gripe for the hire is with the AD and not with our coach. It's just hard to gripe about the AD's decision without offending those who support our coach.

Also, I was much slower than you would have been on the Fulmer rope. Perhaps I was wrong, but if I had been told CDD would be his relplacement, I think I would have stood behind Fulmer even longer. I liked CLK, but that didn't work out so well for UT football. I was behind Fulmer all the way the UCLA game during his last season. I liked Majors, but when the change happened, Fulmer opened up the offense (long Heath Shuler pass against BC, I think?). So, I remember Fulmer when he was a risk taker. So, as PJ points out, I'm not exactly 'spot on' with these coaching assessments, but I don't try to hide that. I'm not even sure what 'spot on' would be in hindsight. And, that should be easier.

In any case... Go Vols!

But, in light of your comment, even more importantly, Go USA... and thank you, Sir, for your service!

And on at least one point we agree.....

For sake of brevity, I limited my comments to the Top 56, so as to include Tennessee.

Bold is overrated; underlined is underrated.

Compare my list to SN's in January.

But do you think they could beat us? That's the question I'm asking.

No, I don't think MTSU could beat us, but that's not ultimately what rankings are about. Boise St. finished ranked # 4 last year, and I'm sure there were at least half a dozen or more teams that could have handled them with ease.

miami needs to play them at that blue turf...they are getting close to that home game winning streak

No it isn't, but DD couldn't even win in the WAC.

Boise always proves people wrong, let's see if they can with a new defensive coordinator. Plus they have Moore back, he's good. Pitt is always decent and their running back is just a sophomore who played like an All American in his first year. Wouldnt consider either of those teams over rated. Other then that I agree! Especially with Penn State.

Until Boise loses, I'll say their top ten. Their conference is weak yes I know, but in their bowl games they still win. Like I said I don't agree with mostly all of it. MSTU that's a joke, given our conference and schedule its not even comparable. Vols>MTSU

We could at least be 40... mississippi should be 20ish.. I've been in mississippi for the summer with some friends who attend.. went to a few practices and noticed that this team is legit-even with losing so much on offense... anyone see the spring game?

yea its pretty high..i mean ppl are excited around the football team..last year they showed the potential..they just gotta be mentally tougher,,last year was awesome compared to 06,07 and 08

at least you aren't a bad sport being on her like some of the other ppl who are one here and are for other teams, btw ask my family Vols number one in my mind, but miami is number two

Actually, Tennessee is rated pretty fairly. This isn't a top 25 team at this point. Let's face it, if you aren't in the top ten then the rankings are pretty arbitrary anyways.

I don't think that Wisky is overrated by any stretch. They return a lot, especially on offense. CFN.com rated the top 10 players by position for each conference and Wisconsin had the 2nd rated QB in Scott Tolzien, the top rated back in John Clay, the number one TE in Kendricks, the number 4 wideout in Nick Toon, and return 80% of their starting O-line. Brent Musburger won't be able to keep his lips off of Bielema's fly this year.

I agree. MTSU had a 10 win season last year. They wouldn't have 10 wins in the SEC, no doubt. But they are giving them credit for a solid season. MTSU 'might' have a chance to beat UT this year, but I'd say this would be the only year. Having followed MTSU for several years, it's very difficult to beat SEC programs. MTSU could hang with them for a good 3 quarters, but it's the depth that wears them down. The ACC on the other hand...a lot easier to get a win against an ACC program with exception of maybe Georgia Tech. When Middle plays UT next year, UT should win with ease since MTSU will be 'down' that year.
