everyone in the east that has a chance to compete loses a lot going into next year. i have a feeling that by the end of the cal game, every one of us will know exactly how the season will play out.

Exactly my thoughts. Florida has a defense to build and a novelty act at QB, Georgia has an OL, a DL and a TB situation and everyone on here knows about UT's situation. The wildcard is South Carolina. If the talent they brought is ready to play (doubtful) they could be a force.

Florida seems to be the best suited, considering Ainge is now out for who knows how long. If Georgia doesn't compete this year, Richt's touch will have worn off and his seat becomes hot.

We will win the conf and play in a BCS bowl. I say it every year and honestly believe it. There is not a team on our schedule that we can't beat. I'd rather predict a win and be disappointed than predict a loss and be right.

At least I've been 100% correct once right?

Not saying they are better, I just don't expect a dropoff at the guard spot.

Not expecting a dropoff isn't enough. Perhaps you didn't notice that our rushing offense last season was the worst UT has had since the 1960's. Our offensive line needs to be MUCH better than last year's offensive line if we want to even be in contention for a BCS bowl. Our wide receiver corp is decimated by losses. We're going to have to be able to run the ball this year, and it isn't going to happen with an offensive line the caliber of last year's O-line.

Being in a New Year's Day bowl isn't what it once was. These days many of the best bowl games are after New Year's Day.

true, but it is still better than being in the bowls that take place before new year's (i.e peach, music city)

A stopped clock is right twice a day!

if some freshman receivers come in and play well and we beat the tar out of cal again AT cal, i think we will have a pretty good idea of where we stand

Not really. I rather measure our team against an sec opponent. If you measured us by Cal last year, then we would have been a top 5 team.

Last year we almost had a better season than people give us credit for. We were worn down by the time we played Arkansas, and Penn State was a throw away game. We lost to the eventual natl. champs by 1 point and lost to LSU with a freshman QB by one play on 4th down. I think 50/50 shot we get into a BCS game this year, if we can actually win those close games.

All teams are great if you ignore all of their losses.

We weren't worn down for Arkansas. They were leaps and bounds better than us. Plus, it's not like they hadn't been playing a tough SEC schedule, as well. There's no excuse for the way that game turned out.

As for the games you indicated as close losses, I'm sure Alabama, South Carolina, and Kentucky fans say the same things about their games with UT. We nearly won a few big games, but we almost had several terrible losses.

I predict another year very similar to this one. A lot of close games against some great teams and some not-so-great teams. Regardless, I think we'll lose at least two or three games next year.

Hopefully I'm very wrong.

There is no doubt about the success this team will achieve next season. Fulmer will grab another SEC and National championship.

:good!:

The Vol fan in me says yes....

But reality says absolutely not...

This team has a whole lot of work to do before we should ever mention a current UT team and BCS in the same statement.

I hope they can prove reality wrong.

You have no faith, therefore, you are not a true fan.

the team wasnt worn down. arkansas just plain and simple killed us with their running game. plus it didnt help that we had a freshman quarterback in under center the whole game either. i believe if a healthy erik ainge would have been in there, things would have gone differently.
