Where's the hype for us to be overrated? If anything, I think most everyone will be overlooking us

Hard to argue w/facts. This is where the Bailey factor will be interesting. If/When JG does JG things do we take our lumps w/the future and get him experience? Do we see a situation similar to last year where we work him in throughout the year? All depends on JG I suppose. Hope he steps up and has a great year.

Seems like Shrout is getting a lot of praise. Haven’t heard much about Mauer other than his hamstring injury. I don’t think it’s a foregone conclusion that Bailey is the backup.

Dudden sound like it at this point does it. No spring, late fall start, a Sr QB w many starts (I know), and a wonky covid-hysteria pre-season never boded well for him, no matter how good he is.

Even Peyton wasn't close to starting behind the Sr QB, who had 0 starts, iirc. It's a huge mountain for a true Fr pro styler to climb.

Are you a Hoosier fan masquerading as a Vol fan? Because you seem to not have much knowledge about our team. 7-3 is the floor for this team, even with JG. You may have missed it, but we are slightly improved over two years ago, the last time we had a losing record. We would have won ten games last year with consistent quarterback play.
Nope, only interest I have in IU is the old " what's good for team x is good for the economy".

7-3 is not the floor, that's where most; including myself, predict we finish with the somewhat known variables we have before us to evaluate.

I'm saying that if one of those variables (QB play) spins to below average and is left to be not corrected, that floor rapidly falls to 4-6 with this schedule.

if Harrison Bailey is even decent there’s no way Guarantano starts next year since no one loses eligibility. Unless he proves me wrong this year of course.

Unfortunetly, if Jg is still here I am afraid he will be the starter next year as well, but I sure hope I am wrong, we are a good qb away from having a very good team imo.

I don’t get where y’all think teams have been stacking the box against us. Maybe you can question JG getting us in the right plays or making changes based on pre-snap. Maybe the lack of a deep threat has allowed safeties to play a step closer to LOS than we’d like, but I don’t think we’re getting defended like we’re running wishbone or something. We’re mainly getting stopped by teams playing 6 and 7 man fronts. That’s all they’ve needed.

That’s an awfully high floor. 7 or 8 is about ceiling territory for this team.

I worry about that with Chaney sometimes. He got the same criticism at UGA. He'll flat out abandon the run at times.
Chaney Runs plays per QB IMO he will manage JG like Fromm his freshman year 19 passes a game he upped that to 24 his Sophomore year JG not there yet but possible. If you look at Chaneys career he evolves from Purdue to Bray at UT etc.. here is his 2 years at UGA W/. Fromm I think our numbers will look similar to these. Of course 10 SEC games vs a schedule with a couple cupcakes need to be accounted for.

"QB position period?" You really think that was the only problem with this team in 2018 and early in 2019?

LOL. No, and I didn't imply as much.. You said JG was a weak spot since he has been here and I just pointed out that our struggles at the QB position since JG has been here isn't on JG alone, starting with Dormady's struggles in 2017.

2020 SEC expert picks: Most overrated and underrated teams, order of finish, bold predictions

Has Tennessee in the overrated category and with the reasons cited, they aren't wrong either.
The QB play this season, more than any other, is going to make or break this team.
Average or slightly above average QB play will make us a 7-3 or even 8-2 team...less than average in the QB spot and we'll be facing a 4-6 or worse.

As long as it's damning to the VN antichrist, JG, then of course the "expert" is spot on. Wish we had a coaching staff with an IQ greater than 4, so then they would start one of the future NFL superstars backing up JG.

If the run game isn't a threat, their defense can keep 6 back and defend the pass. I watched the 06 UT vs Cal last night.. When we made some good runs.. We hit some good pass plays there after.. One definitely compliments the other..

The hard part about JG is that he is both fairly and unfairly criticized. He deserves heaps of criticism for some of his bonehead plays, holding the ball too long, and just doing things that are inexplicable. On the other hand, he had three years of playing behind an offensive line that was like having cardboard cutouts. Even the lowest caliber teams we played we're tearing through our offensive line like they were toilet paper. He didn't even have a chance to get "2 Mississippi" out before he was plastered on the ground.
