we have better aoffensive team than last year with more confident quarterback and equally exciting freshmen..not to mention our finessed defense...so I expect Vols to run and throw all over Bruins this saturday...atleast 2TD win...

To be honest, I really don't know how good/bad UCLA is this year. Does anyone have a scouting report on them? But if we win by more than 4 TDs (which I think is highly unlikely), it would make a huge statement before the UF game.

Here is some scouting, they could not keep the DE's from SDSU off their QB.

We will run these boys into the ground. I would not take UCLA plus 20 in my picks this week.

I would take Vanderbilt plus 14.

My feeling, after browsing this board today while I watch Cinci kill Rutgers, is that 90% of the UT fan's on this board are underestimating UCLA.

Beware high expectations after one game. Free friendly advice.

Really Brother ....underestimating UCLA ?

They played a team of similar quality to WKU ...and won handily but had to fight for their lives in the 1st quarter . They were down by 14 points in what should have been their cakewalk . They could not block San Diego State's defensive ends the whole game .

Think back to last season . What if Phil and company had run the ball over and over instead of passing an inordinate amount of times. Keep in mind ...they were averaging 6 + yards a carry .

What if Chavis and Phile had not backed their corners off 10-12 yards in a safe position ...in an attempt to ride their miniscule lead out and kill the clock ? What if they had played the hard nosed defense that had stuffed UCLA for 3 quarters ?

Replay last years game with the noted corrections . Beginnings of a Blow Out . Apply the apparent improvements in the quartbacks , blocking , running game , defense , play calling and discipline that you saw in game 1 ...against this team that struggled against San Diego State in several areas of the game and that received all the gifts that Fulmer could throw at them last year ....and let us know why you do not feel like UCLA will not be a pushover . Do they have some Superman -esk talent hiding on the bench that I am not aware of that they have been saving for just this occassion ? Or were you so imprssed by their freshman QB that you think they will melign us from the word 'hut' ?

Is anyone else here concerned about Norm Chow? He knows Kiffin pretty well. I hope our offense isn't to similar to his.

I say we win by at least 20. I'll put it at 38-10. They get a field goal against our 1st team defense and a touchdown against our backups. I see it ending up similar to our home game against Cal in 06.

i think if executed properly, we can score 6-7 touchdows, we ucla be effective offense. not sureof 1 thing, this offense will operate the dink and dunk to start, air it latet, the DL will need to be rotated oftenso the backs can take a risk knowing the QB will in troubl

Orgeron coached at USC and has a lot of say in our defense.

If this is a standard Norm Chow offense, I'd say we'll know his tendencies.

UCLA's defense has no Southern Cal guys coaching it, and a new DC promoted from within.

All this confidence sounds eerily similar to last year before we played UCLA.

I just want to win.

This will be a very close game.

The ease with which UT dispatched of WKU has led, it seems, most fans on this forum to think that we are 'back'. The UCLA game will be a true barometer of how well this team will perform this season.

I think this is a 4th quarter, down-to-the-wire game. Remember, we are playing a LOT of freshmen. Talented, athletic freshmen - yes, but still freshmen.

Plus, I think this whole SEC/PAC-10/conference vs. conference mentality is overrated. In college football, scheme plays such an important part. This is why teams such as Utah and Boise State can play with the big boys using inferior athletes.

That stated, I do not think UCLA will out-scheme us, but they will be prepared.

by the time kiffin took over the sc offense it didn't look much like a typical norm chow offense. it's well known carroll forced chow to go to a more run oriented conservative offense. if there is an advantage here i imagine it would kiffin knowing chows tendencies.

I would think Kiffin knows Chow better. If I am not mistaken Chow was the OC and Kiffin watched and studied. Kiffin did not become the OC until after Chow left thus Chow did not get a chance to study his tendencies.

I'd say that Chow will know Kiffin a lot better after Saturday. Monte K, that is. :)

The website referred to on the 4th page that runs the simulations 10,000 times to come up with a predicted score is AccuScore.com. It used to be free and is now a pay site.

I'm thinking UT wins by at least two touchdowns. Not to discount the revival at UCLA, but as previously mentioned they seemed to struggle a bit against San Diego State... but the numbers can be deceiving.

They allowed 14 points in the first quarter and nothing the rest of the way. Was it first game jitters (see our 1st Quarter on offense) or was it something else?

Not a full scouting report, but I'll give a little input: first off the new freshman punter kicks the ball very high, and punt and KO coverage teams look solid, so that first punt return for 6 might be the only stretch I've read here.

As for the rest, the Bruin offensive line looks much bigger and stronger, but is very young. A complete overhaul from last year's debacle of a front. The three running backs are quick and bouncy, Mo Drew types, who will be severely tested by your physical and amped-up defense.

The QB Prince is the wild-card: his first road start could be a roller-coaster, but he has poise and a good solid arm. He needs to find the gifted tight-ends more, and Chow held back the throws to the backs which figure to happen more Saturday.

Our defense will be tested by your ridiculously experienced OL, but the two tackles are very good (Price should be All-American), while the ends are under-sized and didn't get any pass rush vs. SDSU. The Bosworths are both very solid, and Carter and Ayers are two very good LB's.

The secondary took a hit with the loss of frosh CB Hester, and his 5'8 replacement Viney will be the target of almost every outside throw UT makes. Safety Moore is the National POW with 3 picks, but the strong safeties are inexperienced too.

We can't be very hopeful of a repeat of last year's miracle. I'd say UT by 10-14 might be the best case scenario, and a blowout is not unlikely at all.
