*****UT official release: Fulmer named AD

Sorry my friends but this was a VERY dumb move and will continue to hurt us all.

It's almost guaranteed now that we're going to pay too much for a conservative, middle of the road coach that has no chance at any Championships.

This was totally a PR move to get us fans back to being quiet and to settle for whatever we're given.

ALL serious, good coaches want solid stability in the AD and to know their boss, the AD, is on solid ground for several more years.

Fulmer for 2 years does NOT come close to that plus he has zero experience as a AD and that will also worry any serious coach.

This move rules out getting any smart, serious, successful top coaches like Tennessee deserves.

This was a bad move by the rookie named Davenport who should have been fired along with Currie.

A total panic move by total rookies with their primary goal to SHUT UP us, the loyal fans, who have the right to demand that serious changes be made and for TOP, proven successful coaches be hired to get the WINS and Championships that we fans and the name University of Tennessee deserves.

Welcome back to middle of the road Teams at our beloved Tennessee.

You can bet that somewhere Jimmy Haslam is sitting back laughing his (_)_) off.

Meanwhile, aTm just made Jimbo Fisher their HC for 10 years and the richest contract in college sports.

Had we instantly hired Blackburn for 5 years and let him spend between $7 Million and $8 Million per year we could have had Pederson, Leach or some other TOP coach along with the $$$ to hire a dream Team of assistant coaches/recruiters that could compete against Bama and aTm or anyone else.

Then we could get back to lots of WINS and Championships.

Sorry my friends but IMO this has not been a great day and at my age I now have zero hopes of seeing my beloved Vols footVol Team get many Wins or any Championships at all.

Thanks Coach Fulmer for many good and some great seasons but I don't believe you can get us coaches to help us Win any Championships and now Tennessee is doomed for another decade of misery and failed hopes for all our great, loyal fans.

VFL...GBO!!!

I will wait and see whom he hires before passing judgment. Huge upgrade over Currie trying to hire Butch Jones lite though. Trying to hire Doeren should've been the fireable offense.

I can't get the words of so many fans on this site as they made fun of his words where "he was gonna work like heck" and how he will need to "go look at the film". I don't think anyone remembers how many fans were so tired of Phil Fulmer his last couple of years. I could probably dig through the older forums from this site if they still exist and find several hundred. It just isn't worth the effort.

He should go "look at the film" of Currie speaking with Leach and do that. Like tonight.

Phil got to do good things before I trust him. To many sheep that will fall in lockstep with Phil.

Does NOT make him qualified to be the AD........

There is nothing that says he won't be fully up to the task at hand given his long relationship with the UTK Athletic Department.
Evidently he has the backing of President DiPietro and Chancellor Davenport. I'm curious where the members of The Board of Trustees and their Athletics Committee fell on this individually.

I hope so...but he basically blocked Mike Leach from being hired. :ermm:

What proof exists that Fulmer "blocked" any hire? IF he blocked the Doeren hire, then thank you god.

Currie got what he deserved for selling his soul to little jimmie. Trying to secretly hire a coach with the personality of a toad blew up in his face. And because he had done no real research, he was screwed.

Basically, he was calling names from the phone book. Talking to that little weasel Gundy after the crap he pulled on UT during the previous search was nauseating. He wasted 2 days on that. Not knowing the ins and outs of what how things were going to work with Brohm's contract was stupidity. He failed miserably and now he is out of a job that he should have never had in the first place.

Hopefully, Fulmer can find a coach by talking straight with them about the history of the program. Maybe he can convey his love of the program and make one of the coaches out there how great of an opportunity it is at UT.

The job is a sleeping giant.

And will people please quit buying the poison being spread from the talking head national folks. They don't give a crap about UT. They do not understand the hell that has been occurring here under the madness of Haslam.

The still do not understand that the fans spoke last week to save the program. They just want to call us names. Throw around the word dumpster fire, etc. I am surprised that they haven't recycled the trailer park trash comments that were used when we won the National Championship.

They can all go to hell. Fulmer needs to do his job now. If he was part of the problem during the search, it is now time to be part of the solution.

Genuine question. I’ve seen people say that it was Currie who helped get Fulmer gone 2008. Can someone enlighten just a little on that? Am I missing something? I honestly have never heard of that. Please someone enlighten me

my understanding is that hamilton had currie working behind the scenes with the super donors ensuring that the financial commitments were made to buy Fulmer out.

It's going to be an extremely safe, cookie cutter-type of hire. Phil isn't exactly a dynamic, outside the box thinker. I don't expect a hire that energizes the fanbase.

He might not be controlled by Haslams, but that doesn't mean he'll do a good job.

Damn, some of you people would complain about winning the lottery..
