As long as someone can run the business side of the job.....he is no CEO......pure PR move.......

False. He knows business. Maybe not back in his head coach days, but since then he has been involved in very business related enterprises.

Great choice for AD.

Tennessee's, as he always has been.

I don't know if he'll be a good AD or not, but I know the man gives a damn and will do his all for Tennessee.

I can't get the words of so many fans on this site as they made fun of his words where "he was gonna work like heck" and how he will need to "go look at the film". I don't think anyone remembers how many fans were so tired of Phil Fulmer his last couple of years. I could probably dig through the older forums from this site if they still exist and find several hundred. It just isn't worth the effort.

I'm neither pro-Fulmer or anti-Fulmer. He was the coach when I went to school, but the Majors stuff was still fresh enough that I never warmed to him. I respected him, though.

Because of that respect, I can say with confidence that after Hamilton, Hart, and Currie, this is a refreshing change for the university.

No matter what anybody thinks of Fulmer, he's always had UT's best interests at heart, even after a pretty vicious public dumping. He's the ex you're always happy to see rather than the crazy one you avoid at all costs.

Sorry my friends but this was a VERY dumb move and will continue to hurt us all.

It's almost guaranteed now that we're going to pay too much for a conservative, middle of the road coach that has no chance at any Championships.

This was totally a PR move to get us fans back to being quiet and to settle for whatever we're given.

ALL serious, good coaches want solid stability in the AD and to know their boss, the AD, is on solid ground for several more years.

Fulmer for 2 years does NOT come close to that plus he has zero experience as a AD and that will also worry any serious coach.

This move rules out getting any smart, serious, successful top coaches like Tennessee deserves.

This was a bad move by the rookie named Davenport who should have been fired along with Currie.

A total panic move by total rookies with their primary goal to SHUT UP us, the loyal fans, who have the right to demand that serious changes be made and for TOP, proven successful coaches be hired to get the WINS and Championships that we fans and the name University of Tennessee deserves.

Welcome back to middle of the road Teams at our beloved Tennessee.

You can bet that somewhere Jimmy Haslam is sitting back laughing his (_)_) off.

Meanwhile, aTm just made Jimbo Fisher their HC for 10 years and the richest contract in college sports.

Had we instantly hired Blackburn for 5 years and let him spend between $7 Million and $8 Million per year we could have had Pederson, Leach or some other TOP coach along with the $$$ to hire a dream Team of assistant coaches/recruiters that could compete against Bama and aTm or anyone else.

Then we could get back to lots of WINS and Championships.

Sorry my friends but IMO this has not been a great day and at my age I now have zero hopes of seeing my beloved Vols footVol Team get many Wins or any Championships at all.

Thanks Coach Fulmer for many good and some great seasons but I don't believe you can get us coaches to help us Win any Championships and now Tennessee is doomed for another decade of misery and failed hopes for all our great, loyal fans.

VFL...GBO!!!

But I'll also say that if Pat Summitt had been alive and healthy, the last five years would have gone a lot differently for all of our athletic programs. We missed her powerful voice and leadership.

In my experience, powerful people rarely laugh when they get beaten. The Vol Nation just overthrew Haslam. I would imagine he's throwing around words like "ungrateful" and "disrespectful" when he should be looking at the mirror and taking accountability for a series of regrettable decisions. That dude just isn't good at sports management.

What I think will happen is Fulmer will bring Blackburn in and turn the AD over to him in two years. I also think Tee Martin will return as a head coach in waiting.

All these people saying Fulmer has no AD experience need to give it a rest. Hamilton, Hart, and Currie all had AD experience and look where it got us. Give me the Tennessee guy any day.

I couldn't resist after all

It will change when we have a QB that is able to deliver the ball.

It will change when we can line up at the four yard line and score without calling audibles at the line and playing scared.

It will change when our receivers can catch the ball.

It will change when we have coaches who develop players.

Therefore, it may never change. I sure hope it does. Go Vols.

These were comments from the end of the Phil Fulmer regime. They look kind of familiar don't they.

If Feldman is correct and Phil was part of a cabal to sabotage the coaching search for his own benefit, we are even more screwed now. For everyone claiming CPF bleeds orange, don’t forget his unerring talent to bleed UT of green. He has done a masterful job of pulling off another back-stabbing and that says more than a little about his character yet again. When Phil thinks he deserves something, he manages to take it with a bit guile all the while being proclaimed as our savior.

Had CPF really wanted to help, he could have aided in the damn coaching search, run interference with Haslam, or tried to bring together the warring factions. Instead, his ego and arrogance won out and damned if he isn’t the new AD. Wow, how did that happen!!?? Btw, the same character issues were his downfall as a coach. ‘They didn’t forget to coach overnight,’ he was just too bullheaded to recognize that the game had changed and he refused to adapt.

I’m tired of this Good Ol Boy ass grabbing contest and it’s pathetic results. Evidently I don’t bleed orange because I am done supporting this $hit show in any way. CPF couldn’t beat quality coaches when he was on the sidelines and he certainly won’t from the skybox. After 30yrs of following UT and carrying a diploma from the school, I can no longer stomach the athletic department’s utter ineptitude and inability to find its own ass with both hands and going back to the well with a ‘TN man’ that intentionally worsened a problem just so he could ‘fix’ it was the last straw.

Not sure who the problem is it was, that's debatable. What's not debatable is the next hire determines the future If we get the right guy the last weeks debacle will be forgotten. I'm glad at least a "football guy" is making the call. Barry Alvarez of Tennessee is my hope

If Fulmer did this to break the athletic program from Jim Haslam's control, then the football program has a chance to move forward.
