UT offense game plan for GT?

What are thoughts on Vol offense game plan for GT...besides the obvious answer incoming...score more points than GT. Vegas odds are trending down on total points, which may make sense, where GT tries to shorten the game, and may figure we're breaking in a new QB w/ experience on OL, and confidence in Kelly. This scenario probably plays to a low scoring game, and may bode well for us, w/ their star RB out for season, to control the game...though I wouldn't be surprised to see us come out and loosen them up w/ some deep balls mixed in w/ run.

I'm thinking the all new 3 headed monster for the UT offense will be QD->Jennings, QD->Kelly, QD->Wolf. The lion's share of the touches start here. as a base plan.

Byrd and Williams used to stretch defenses. Offense will be more balanced than in 16' with the threat of the pass opening up the box for the run. Offense becomes more traditional with more under center action and emphasis on ball control over playing fast. Passing will see a reduction in horizontal and increase in vertical. Kelly, CFA, and Jordan heavy between tackles. Kelly, Byrd, Chandler, Williams heavy to the edges. Of course, other play makers targeted sporadically as well.

Not quitting my day job.

I think Butch will use the 5 play book. And save the super secret play book for Florida. Just like last year.

Go slow. Run the ball. Butch has already said you will see a lot of RBs this year get touches. So I would say you see Kelly, Chandler and Jordan get touches and a slower over all pace. Eat up the time of possession as much as humanly possible. The less their offense is on the field, the less we have to worry about it.

Probably an emphasis on good special teams. Bury GT deep. Hopefully into their own endzone a few times. I think by late 3rd qtr their defense will just be paper tigers.

After a quick glance at a prediction of the GT defense, it appears that their front 7 has some question marks while the secondary is experienced. Assuming this is correct, my prediction is that we rely on our rushing attack early and try to open up our passing as the game goes on. Depending on the physicality of our offensive line, it could be a slow start. Regardless, we shouldn't be too conservative. If Kelly can get 6-8 yds on first downs, we can open it up on 2nd or 3rd downs. Given enough of these over the course of the game, I like our playmakers chances.

Will be interesting to see if Butch actually slows things down. He was so stubborn with that in the past, running hurry up when he absolutely should have been milking clock

For this game we may be more vertical (because our guys on the perimeter should be better than theirs), but I think the new QB coaches west coast background will be the opposite in the long term.

Make them score with us. I like that game plan. Score fast. See if GT can keep up.

1st half more run than pass, short routes for Dormady to get his confidence going. 2nd half will be mostly same since Butch doesn't adjust much after halftime.

Butch's focus on complementary football means he'll probably try to sustain long drives on offense, knowing our defense will be on the field for long periods of time when Ga Tech has the ball.

How that squares with taking advantage of the new, greater downfield threat we anticipate having with QD as QB, well, we'll just have to wait and see on that.

I mean, we were ranked 65th in the country in 1st half points scored and 5th in the nation in 2nd half points scored last year.

To jump 60 spots on a ranking system just over halftime, I would think Something got adjusted?

We will use short crossing and slant routes balanced with runs up the middle until we see the DBs biting on the short routes and cheating up on the run. Then we will hit them with sluggos, posts and corners down field. It boils down to can we block and run effectively and can our WRs run good routes to get the DBs to bite on the fakes. If we can execute, we will curb stop them, if not see App State last year.
