George Lapides (Memphis radio) opened his show this morning by saying that if Muschamp doesn't accept, he is betting Cutcliffe will rise to the top because that's who Peyton is pushing for hard behind the scenes.
Usually the best coaches are the ones who had the mental aspect of the game down, but didn't have the physical tools. The HoF players that became coaches?
Mike Singletary is proving to be a pretty good coach.
Mike Ditka didn't do too bad either.
Bart Starr didn't do too well.
I think there are a couple of others... but success was moderate at best.
If Peyton becomes a coach... it'll be in the NFL with professionals. Does that happen? I can see it, but really only in the NFL.
The exceptions prove the rule.... For every Mike Ditka there are many Bart Starr's.....
George Lapides is the Jimmy Hyams of Memphis, IMO.
Who can stand to listen to that clown try to stumble, fumble, and stutter his way through a two sentences?
Manning needs to steer Tony Dungy toward this job. Good coach, and an even better person. Just a thought.
well my thoughts,HC kids<qb>would flock to ten. to play for Peyton.if the qb's come, the WR will follow.
don't think Peyton would have any trouble at all with recuiteing.he could put a staff together that would make that Kitten green wth envy.
Peyton's been in the nfl for 12 years now,won a SB,4 time's MVP.he might think its timeto try something else.
Much as I like Peyton Manning as a player, the great unknown for me is whether he would be able to both recruit AND coach kids to have the drive and desire to be a student of the game that HE is.
Great players don't always make great coaches. Great coaches weren't always stellar college and/or pro players.
Just my opinion.
