We need to find some # significant to UT that the researchers in the football office finds is better than most teams, or best (# of total draft picks, # of HoF'ers, # of ProBowl Vols, something). Then, signifiy it in letter bundles. I know we sent 300something letters to a recruit this spring, but that # was arbitrary. We should find a meaningful #, and get this stuff out there!

Pots of gold? That sounds like an Auburn tactic.

Seems to me Butch is doing just fine.

Just do the same thing. Draft picks. We may have more than Notre Dame. If so, 1-up them.

Edit: Nvm, just checked. They're #2 all time, we're #7.

We have done the exact same thing when we needed to. It is not a new tactic. Also, this goes without saying, but Butch recruits earlier than most coaches do, so the bulk of these letters were sent out in the summer. As far finding stats to give our school the edge, well I don't think we have much to worry about in that department. Coaches come prepared to do business and ours have proven that they can do business with the best. One thing very apparent with this staff is their respect for quality control. Our coaches seem to have a real eye for talent which gives us a tremendous edge in terms of how quick we can offer / recruit.

Well, just to be clear, this wasn't meant to be critical. I am pretty stoked about our recruiting. Just saying. I don't like ND, but that seemed like a meaningful gimmick. The gimmick being the buttload of letters (as we have done). And the meaningful part being the meaningful # to some aspect of history worth bragging about. Good stuff. We should find our #.

As in a 119 letters for team #119 type gimmick? Eh, maybe we should just send them a pop-up book instead. It would probably have around the same impact.

Oh I dont know. I think anything a school can do to seperate its self in the mind of a 17yr old is good. Especially in this case where ND is subliminally getting the kid to believe that going there will get them to the NFL. Putting them together like that automatically makes the recruit briefly think of himself going to the NFL & by doing that he will associate ND to getting to the NFL each time he dreams of going.

Nice. I like the subliminal side to it. How about we take it a step further, like subliminally getting the kid to consider us by sending him hundreds of photos of random everyday objects. This way each time he encounters one of these objects he will associate it with Tennessee. Then, eventually, he will think about Tennessee so much that he will name his dog Smokey, make a miniature statue of General Neyland for art class, and even paint his front yard like an orange and white checkerboard. . . or something.

I'd rather not eat Notre Dame's leftovers. And I know u didn't mean for us to call them this but "pots of gold" is one of the corniest things I've heard in a while, honestly if I was a recruit I'm sure I'd be flattered and all but I think I would find it very hoakey.

New tactic- 477 emails. I know email is huge, they made a movie about two people that had mail. It was called You have Email or something. Let's implement this and call it Email Pot.

LOL. Likely you spend more resources and time/money doing all this stuff than you would if you just straight up paid a recruit.

477 emails is not cool, it's annoying. They call is spam!

The 477 wasn't the ingenious part of it, nor the coolest. The fact that each letter had the draftee, round they were drafted and information about them is what sets it apart. I agree with most on here that Butch is doing a great job and if there is anything that would rival this then he will find it. I doubt he is look to VN.com to come up with recruiting ideas though.

Bingo. Exactly.

So, if we sent a recruit a pack of letters with the exact # of letters to represent every time a UT alum has been elected to the Pro Bowl (multiple appearances included) or something, even though that wouldn't be 477, it would be significant #, show they are wanted here, and would give a brief visual of not just the NFL, but NFL success. More significant if you ask me. I bet Butch does something like this, too if given the impetus. Someone's got to blow him up on Twitter about it!

I guess I can see some of the appeal of this but it seems kind of IDK corny at best and maybe even desperate. I'm sure someone researches this crap though and it's likely it has some benefit I guess. Personally as a parent I would want to see the system they have in place to make the most out of son's abilities both athletically and academically instead of being bombarded by these letters.

Let's just send them fake blank checks and hope they don't try and cash them until after they are signed.
