UT Marching Band Playlist Suggestions Here

Of course, we all love the song, “Rocky Top,” but you have to admit it gets a little old when the band plays it after every gain of five yards or more. That has been especially true since someone decided to put that sissy “whew” between “good ole Rocky Top” and “Rocky Top Tennessee.” All the worse that Bama has stolen USC’s Fleetwood Mac tune, “Tusk,” now that it is old enough to be in the public domain. How cool is that?

For those reasons, I thought it might be a good break from the summer doldrums to invite fan suggestions for the Pride of the Southland Band’s playlist. I also thought I might start it off with something that might turn a negative into a positive, such as Warren Zevon’s “Lawyers, Guns and Money.” What are your suggestions?

I never get tired of Rocky Top and the only people that I have heard get tired of it are South Carolina, Georgia, Vandy, and Kentucky fans who have to hear it a ton of times everytime they play Tennessee.

I agree, but it still wouldn't hurt to mix it up a little bit.

I agree, but it still wouldn't hurt to mix it up a little bit.

Example, when Johnny Jones was here the band played "Johnny Be Good."

I was a fan long before "Rocky Top." Wasn't even played by the UT band until the late seventies. Come on. This was supposed to be a fun post.

Several songs from Sly and the Family Stone always come to my mind when that subject comes up. "Stand", "Wanna Take You Higher", "Dance To the Music". Lots of horns for the horn blowers to like. Some enterprising young band director is gonna take all Sly's stuff one of these days and make it belong to his school from repeated playings. It's made for college football and recognizable for fans...it's even hum-worthy and yell-worthy.
