I don't see what would be wrong with Steve Spurrier being the new coach at Tennessee. I think he could bring a winning attitude and transform our program back to the elite status we have held in the past. He is good. You have to admitt it. He knows how to coach. He just gives you confidence as a player. He expects alot from his players and they give the effort in return. Steve is from Johnson City, so he is a native Tennesseean. I think it just fits. Can you imagine? Winning games 52-0 again. Being feared by teams because of our potent offense!

Steve Spurrier isn't a Tennessee native either. His family moved into Johnson City when he was a kid. Steve Spurrier coaching at UT would mean him having to explain a lot of insults and comments against UT players, coaches and fans. It AIN'T gonna happen. He said on national television, "I am a Gator and I will always be a Gator". Steve Spurrier will NEVER coach at UT.

Spurrier is in danger of losing what legacy he's had. I consider him hugely overrated. The fact that another guy has come into FL and in a handful of years win more NC's than Spurrier doesn't look good. Then factor in he was a complete and utter bust in the NFL and frankly has done nothing remotely special at SC and he's headed for being remembered as "a guy that made a good run at FL...where any decent coach should succeed with the talent they can get down there.".

I wouldn't take him if he offered to coach for $10 and a free golf membership.

he's got 6 SEC champs and a NC at a school who had never won anything in football in their history. He basically built up what the Corch took over. Not saying he's the greatest ever but to say what he did at UF is overrated is stretching it.

From a purely "what he did at the time" view of history I understand your point. My point was, since losing his last game in The Swamp to none other than the Vols and Fulmer he's accomplished...what?

I think the question anyone who seriously thinks Spurrier is a great coach should ask is...

"What exactly has Spurrier done when he hasn't been absolutely loaded with talent?"

The only mentionable thing if you take his stint at UF away is going 7-3-1 and then 8-4 at Duke...back to back winning seasons there is astounding...even if it was in an ACC that was more watered down than it is now...

I know Spurrier brought the 'Fun and Gun' offense to college football and changed the way teams look at high powered, pass happy offense...but again....how much of that was a by-product of the unreal amount of talent he had the luxury of working with while at UF?

And...how has that 'Fun and Gun' worked out for him since he left (i.e. since he hasn't been loaded with players that make the scheme look great)

Visor, anyone? Oh yea, thats right..... Kiffin wears a visor. Problem solved.
What?? WTF does a visor have anything to do bout winning football games. I mean visors are cool and all, but it want win games for you.
I don't care if CLK wears a TOP HAT, as long as we win and play in BCS games. .

6 SEC titles and 1 NC in what, 12 years, is nothing to sneeze at.

but, other than UT and occasionally bama, where was his competition? in that context i think an argument for underachievement can be made.

He was in Newport, Tn before he was in Johnson City. His family moved there like the 1-2nd grade, and they lived there for a year or too. But, yea he wasn't born in Tennessee. Little history lesson.:)

VOL Fans..... Can we give Kiffin a chance to prove his worth before we start thinking of a replacement? Steve is a good coach, and has lived in Tennessee, but born in Miami, Fl, but we need to let this staff work their magic first.
