UT has the money, why not just pay up

Who is to say he and daddy would not have tried this again during the season? Walk off before an SEC game, etc.? I hope they have terminated any leases, and clawback any autos, other agreements ASAP. Josh had to do what he did.

However coronation of a high school kid who played a lot of volleyball, 7 on 7 football who was deemed all-world prematurely and an “elite college qb” blew up in Josh’s face. I think Josh could have turned a similar prospect to Nico who was more determined, smarter and without extreme family baggage into an NFL high pick. This experiment just went south due to a number of reasons including stupidity, greed and lack of appreciation for Coach Heupel’s choosing Nico for special attention and mentoring. It will be interesting to see where Nico lands and if he has the sense to not blow a second major opportunity If one exists.

I know, I know, but why not just psy up and keep playing ball.

Seems now days with million here million there, what's the difference.

Over all the ledger says we lost on Jimmy Cheek, Pruitt and all the rest.

Maybe, just maybe we could be better then 10 and 3 for this year.

This is a contract, they are there to be negotiated. Of course if I break my ADT contract all hell breaks loose.

Also just maybe, ole nico van de maas may come back.

If not sue his ass into submission

Im just saying, GO

Has your check to UT cleared the bank yet?

from most reports, he was making 2 mill. We bumped that in January to 2.4 mill. That is a 20% bump. After paying him 2 mill to redshirt, and 2 mill for a playoff season, where he was good but not great. Most of the other playoff qbs were getting less than him last year. Will Howard was getting around 1mill, as was Riley Leonard.

I think the 20% increase was more than enough. Could he have gotten more during the January portal window than 2.4? Maybe, but he will not at this point.

I don't think this team was going to ho 10+ with or without Nico
You’re probably right, but if we’re not going to win ten games, I would rather do it with one of the younger guys where we feel better that even more money wasn’t wasted on Nico.

Players are finding out they are not as valuable as they thought. Lol, welcome to the real world kid.
Hope no team takes Nico. And if they do I hope he never sees the field.
A lot of these guys may not be going to class, but they’re starting to get a good lesson in supply and demand economic theory and how the real world values a product or service.

Your first premise “UT has the money” is not correct. UT does not pay NIL money.

4 million is way too much for a average QB.

running around behind UT’s back looking for suitors probably pissed off the brass and made them realize he was going to be a cancer…. Regardless of whether he was/is worth $4 million…. The program decided they weren’t going to be high jacked by some prima donna and his big ass daddy.

The odds makers have dropped Tennessee's projected 2025 wins from 9.5 to 8.5.

Says a lot that his departure at the absolute last minute only drops expectations by 1 win.

Another stat i read in all of this was he had 4 games last year without a TD pass. Not what one should expect from a $4 million QB

Easy to say how to spend someone else's $ isn't it. Besides there is nothing right about paying a player who tries to hold you hostage for the $.

With the risk of highjacking my own thread, I spoke to three students that said Nico is still on campus.

Two said they saw him getting food at cane's yesterday.

Of course this came from a pike.

Believe what you want....

Nico was still on his first and only contract at UT which was 8 million over 3 years. They never renegotiated it with him and I think that was part of the problem. Many other kids at UT got raises but Nico didn’t. It’s a really sad story too because I think Nico wanted to stay at UT.

and most of his TD passes where vs OOC & Vandy. other than that, he had 5 TD passes vs SEC and 4 games we were shut out in the first half

There are multiple reports out there that he got a bump to 2.4 mill after the season. I have no insider info, do you?

I assume you saw the games we saw last year, right? Me personally, I saw Nico play the SAME all season long. By the end of the season he looked like he did during the opener. That ain’t what a 5* does and it’s definitely not worth 4mill and a Bugatti

He also started getting checks while still in high school. Doubt many other players had that deal.
