UT Had a Lot of "Value Pick" Guys

He didn't develop these guys. They got where they are based on natural talent.

It was either Malone or JRM who was picked that weren't undeveloped. D4H is right about this one, that's guys got drafted inspite of Jones, not because.

That's actually why I'm not sure how AK will turn out.

Reggie Bush is sort of like the NFL equivalent of Christian Laettner. He's had a very good, solid pro career, but he's never been the superstar he was in college. I suspect that many NFL offensive schemes simply don't play to Bush's strengths. New Orleans' scheme, in particular, didn't seem right for him. He never logged more than 600 rushing yards in NO; and even as a receiver, he wasn't that well utilized with the exception of his Rookie year. Bush was nevertheless a good role-player for the Saints and found a way to contribute, but he's never been "the man" like he was in college.

Looking at his stats, Bush's best season was actually 2013 in Detroit, which seems to be the only year where he was fully utilized as both as an RB and a receiving threat.

AK is like a Poor Man's Reggie Bush. He's immensely talented, but like Bush, I suspect that many teams won't know how to use him. Even here at UT, DeBord failed to fully utilize him. I think there are a few teams out there where AK could be a big-time player, but I'm skeptical that New Orleans is the right fit.
I think AK is a better all around RB than Bush was capable of being. He also has the advantage of playing behind Peterson and Ingram for at least a season (time to develop and learn from the best), more tread on his tires (huge deal) and wasn't a first round pick (less pressure to perform). Being a third round pick he will get the chance to develop at least 2 years before he really has to produce.

Alvin Kamara- I understand the concerns of this guy, but the NFL is trending in favor of guys like this... I have been saying that Green Bay was on to something whenever they put Montgomery back at the RB position... I believe Christian McCaffery will push the issue further.

JRM- I believe he is the best "Value Pick" of the draft outside of Sutton. (Side note I didn't evaluate every other player either sooo there is that) Furthermore, I believe the leadership he showed whenever he got hurt tells us a lot about what kind of person he is. I also believe that he will benefit from the schemes being deployed by NFL teams as well, there isn't a need for bigger LB's anymore because of how much space they have to cover. Due to the different schemes JRM fits perfectly.

Can Sutton- Man, what can't you say about him. Dude is a stud and his intelligence will benefit him greatly at the next level... a several year starter. (Best Value Pick of the draft IMO)

Josh Dobbs- Very good position he is in.... sit, learn, wait.

Josh Malone- Interesting pick in the fourth...
Maybe they want to challenge defenses more vertically.... and if that is the case he has a shot...

Derek Barnett- I do believe he is a great value pick simply because he is a top 10 dare I say top 5 talent... he will
do some great things for sure.

I actually think within the next five years, power football is coming back.

I agree. I can't envision further development unless the QB in the spread turns into some type of single wing.

About the only thing left with the spread is for somebody to start tinkering with crazy line splits and putting eligible receivers in odd places.

The spread works in college and high school because it causes matchup problems for defenses. Offenses are able to target the weakest link on the field. In the NFL there really isn't a weakest link defensive player since the talent level is so high across the board.

Very true, defenses usually catch up. Defenses are getting smaller linebackers, and smaller yet quicker defensive linemen. Eventually, some team is going to pull an Arkansas and get massive guys that push people over.

Football is a cyclical sport. Here's kinda the progression ( some of these are concurrent ): Single Wing, Wishbone, Power I, Triple Option, West Coast, Fun and Gun, Air Raid, Spread Option, HUNH, and so forth.

Every scheme in college football is based in wishbone/Single Wing, west coast, or Croyell's offense.

Yea but that leaves more room for option routes... you give me 6" of leverage and I will burn you with an out route or a slant every time.... it's a lot harder to do that with more people in the box.
