UT-FL- Gut Feelings

I haven't been a fan for a long while.. I know this rivalry is the most anticipated of all college football just about. But why?

Did someone kick someone's dog or something? Just curious.. And asking the stupid question.

Steve spurrier. 😡

These are just my gut feelings about this game:

1) There will be an asterisk put next to this game by the national sports people because of the hurricane if UT wins handily (28-7 type of score). The national sports people will say "The Gators did not get to practice, players are suspended, blah, blah, blah" The Vols will get no credit for winning.

2) If the Gators win this game Butch will get roasted for the same reasons that the Gators get a pass for losing (Gators did not practice, players suspended, blah, blah). The roasting might be deserved, we will have to wait and see how the "Coaching" aspect of the game goes.

3) QD will get every snap this game. We need consistency and JG looked, and was inconsistent last week versus an inferior opponent (Not knocking JG I wanted him to win the starting job outright this spring so we could have him 3 years or more. He also fits the offensive style better).

4) QD will throw at least 1 pick this week. He has tried to fit the ball into triple coverage during the GT game too many times and last week threw it straight to the ISU player in the end zone.

5) UT will out rush FL this week. Kelly gets over 100 yards.

6) The Vols defense comes with a vengeance, there will be blitzes from everywhere. The D holds the Gators rushing to under 100 yards and passing under 175 yards.

With all of this said I feel the Vols win a low scoring game 23-20.

What are your "gut feelings" on this game.

23-20 is high scoring imo

Reasons being...

1. Very hostile environment and qb, or ol doesn't seem in sync.

2. Fired up Florida players anxious to prove a point.

3. Coaching. Does Butch play not to lose and call a conservative gameplan, relaying a message of fear and uncertainty to his team?

But anyways GO FN VOLS!!

I think Tennessee wants to prove a point as well. If we go out and play sound focused football we will win this one.GBO!!!!!

Given what I just saw of Mac's press conference, I like the Vols' chances in this game a lot more now.

That is very telling since he is in the Press Box

But there is no telling who he has been watching on the sideline. lol

Oh yeah, gut feeling? Vols win. Mind also says we win, but the players have to execute.

Prove it. If it is true... then it should be really easy to prove. I watched the GT game a half dozen times trying to prove myself wrong. I saw once that he threw into coverage to JJ and once to Wolf. I didn't see anything else that wasn't a normal convergence of coverage after the throw. It is important to know what you are looking at too. GT played a lot of zone. Defenders in a zone will always break to the ball at the throw. It always "looks crowded" by design. Part of what you want out of a zone is lots of tacklers around receivers as soon as they make the catch. If you are accusing QD of trying to hit soft spots in GT's zone with a player on all 3 sides... that's true but not "triple coverage". That's pretty much what you do vs a zone.

QD explained the pick. A corner dropped off a shorter route into his throwing lane. He made a mistake. He made a bad read of the coverage. It happens.... but it wasn't throwing into a crowd on that occasion.

Dormady will play well and especially if he gets help from the receivers. UT's O overall will be more effective than many think.

I'm concerned about the D stopping the run because of the LB's and specifically Jumper.

His throw was very bad. It was so short that it would have not gotten to the receiver. It was simply under thrown. I hope QD plays well and if he does, we win the game. I think our D will play well Saturday and hold UF's offense to 13 points.

I feel better about this one than last year at home. The monkey is off our back. Just get out there and play our game, limit mistakes and we win by two touchdowns.

My gut feeling? My gut feeling tells me that we will find a way to lose. There's absolutely no reason in the world we should lose. Florida is terrible this year. They just had a hurricane come through their state so everybody is mentally preoccupied. They haven't found a quarterback yet. Hell they haven't found any offense yet. They just got embarrassed on National Television by Michigan and didn't get to play their cupcake tune-up game before us. So on paper there's no way in the world Florida should win this game. However Tennessee has found a way to give this game away for nearly a decade even when we have everything working in our favor.

I agree with you but we somehow find a way to make their bad QB's look like heisman candidate.

My gut says ready the embalming liquor for this one. I wouldn't place a bet on either team honestly. A lot will depend on how composed QD is and if Shoop has done any homework at all. FL has not shown an offense yet, I fully expect some true freshman unknown to have a record setting game against us.

A few things that concern me..

1) Georgia tech averaged 256 yds rushing in 2016 and we gave up 526 yds rushing to them... The "Offense from Mars" arguement is bologna. Great defenses would have handled it..

2) Tennessee tackling and outside contain are the worst I've ever seen. Kongbo is not an SEC defensive end. He lacks technique, speed and experience. He lost contain against GT and looked even worse against ISU. I expect UF to exploit this weakness.

3) The more #8 and # 53 are on the field, the less of a chance we have of winning. UF will test them early and often.

4) QD was saucer-eyed at the beginning of the GT game. He gained his composure and pulled out a win against GT. Against ISU, he bobbled 1 perfect snap, fumbled another, was stripped once and missed a corner roll-back on his interception. QD, Calm down and play your game.

5) Our Special Teams may make the difference.

6) Not sure our Oline can handle their Dline. UF looked very good against Michigan early in the game

7) Not sure Butch has the guts to bring in young, fresh players on D in the Swamp

8) I hope our guys like playing in the rain.....

It will be interesting to see how many fans show up to the game. I expect most of the TN fans to travel as they have reservations, etc. but many FL fans may be stranded out of state and not willing to come back until they have electricity, water and other essentials.

Is this where stub hub makes a killing?

Scarlett and Calloway were by far their 2 best players on offense and I believe they lost a starting OL too due to suspensions.

If we keep them from getting easy big plays, then we should win by about 5-10 points. But you never know, if they are caught up in distractions, we could blow them out.

brain says we will win

gut says we lose and the fanbase is gonna turn on Butch like a pack of wild dogs on a wounded animal

sticking with the brain for now. gut has been unreliable lately.

Gut unreliable like the morning after 12 beers unreliable or like the morning after Taco Bell after midnight unreliable?

I can't trust my gut when it comes to my beloved Vols. My gut tells me we will win EVERY game, and has consistently done so for years. It's a curse...

That being said, we really have no real clue about either team. Gators offense looked horrible against Michigan, but was that an abberation or reality? Our defense looked horrible against GA Tech, but the same question remains...abberation, or reality? Indiana State showed us nothing, and the Gators haven't played since Michigan man handled them.

We'll find out Saturday. Historically, we've often found a way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory when playing the despised Gators. Maybe this year it'll be different. Maybe this year my gut will be correct.

Maybe...
