Over the years we've recruited a lot of player from the Lonestar state (shouldn't it be Longhorn state), but most have never panned out. This years crop of McKenzie, Vereen, and Creer look to buck those odds. I believe about a year from now the other UT fans will be wondering how did we let these guys get away.

On the other hand we've not got a lot of players from Bama, but we've had a lot of success from these player. Guys like Tee, Joey Kent, Swain, Rashad Moore, Aaron Sears, and Condredge Holloway.

Backdoc, in the future please only refer to Tenn as UT. There is only one UT and its not near Mexico....

Its bad enough that we ( Tenn ) had to go down there ( Texas) and save their rumps from becoming North Mexico ( hence , our beloved team name Volunteers ) without them trying to copy everything about us....LOL

I'm pretty sure we were Blount College or East Tennessee College in the 1840's... but I like the way you think!!

If it weren't for Houston and Crockett, both East Tennesseans, they would be speaking Spanish exclusively.

That might not last too much longer.

They WERE Northern Mexico. Tennesseeans didn't keep them from that, they just changed it.

I'm pretty sure the 'Horns aren't hurting for talent.

No they aren't, particularly of late. For the past several years, they have essentially had first pick of the in-state talent and load up on the 4 stars in addition to a handful of 3 stars and 5 stars. Then they go out and cherry pick a handful of out of state players.

But Oklahoma is getting back to their roots this year and hitting Texas HARD again after backing off the past couple of years. In fact, I believe I saw that the Sooners already have commitments from 3 of the top 5 players from Texas for the '08 recruiting class.

Texas' strategy is to offer very early for the in-state players they want... and only hold that offer open for a short period of time. Usually it works... fortunately for us it didn't in the case of Creer, who was put off by the hard sell.
