A special thanks goes out from me to everyone who has replied and those who will reply at a later time. Any advice I get means a ton because I'm on my own with this.

I'd take hat's advice first. Just bust up in there and talk to someone. If they BS you, do not take no for an answer.

If that doesn't work out drive over to Pellissippi. Whatever you do get in College. I've seen too many people do that year off crap then do nothing.

EXACTLY. A few people in my family claim they are disabled and leech off of the federal government for money they do not even need. I want to get this thing rolling because I'm afraid if I don't there's a good chance I end up single and alone in public housing; addicted to prescription pills. :eek:lol:

If and when you get in college.

Here's the key to graduating:

Go to class. That is all you have to do. Just go to class and the rest will take care of itself.

tuition - look into student loans and whatever financial aid UT can offer. there's the lottery scholarship (don't know how good your grades are, and if they require you to attend a tennessee high school for a few years to be eligible).

student jobs - there are tons of them. some are more desirable than others. freshman year you can get campus jobs at the various dining halls. they don't pay much, but they seem to always be hiring. after that, you can apply to be a RA (it covers your housing), and if your grades are good you can tutor at the thornton center or the black cultural center.

Add me to that list...Luckily was blessed with the ability of catching fish for a living and mad computer skills.

I can't say I took a year off but a 1.75 GPA didn't help. Even though I had a 28 ACT

that's the other option. ACT. get a high enough score and they'll come after you. a 28 gets you the tennessee scholarship and if you hit above 30 you're pretty much guaranteed the whittle.

it's actually quite high now -- somewhere in the upper 20's, i think.

I am out of state, and I was told my projected tuition is 18,000 Room and Board is 7800, books fees and expenses are another 5 or so thousand. Basically, I intend to get together a little over 30k for next year.

You should look into this.

Academic Common Market/Regional Contract Program

It paid my way to in-state tuition as a GA resident at UT.

I don't qualify as a Florida Resident and a Chemical Engineering major. Apparently FL residents are limited to graduate programs.

It's a non issue for me though, as I am not having any issues really with getting the funds together, and I should have everything together by mid april.

The GI bill helps a lot.

Sorry if this has been posted or already discussed...

what about the hope scholarship? That alone pays up to half your tuition.

also, I believe UPS or Fedex does tuition reimbursement, not sure how it works.

Wow man, sorry to hear of your situation. I wish I could give some input on assistance with the admissions process, but I can relate to falling in love with the university.

I grew up as a Vol fan basically from all the football games I watched over the years with my dad on TV and listening to John Ward on the radio. Being from East TN, UT was always huge... but I fell in love with the entire school as a whole going through the tour and admissions process. The campus has always felt like a second, well now third... home to me.

Best of luck on getting in.

UPS does. I think it is up to 3,000 per semester. What you do is you pay for the class up-front or via loans, grants, etc. After the class is complete you bring something official from the school that says you passed the class, then they will pay you back. That's the way it was explained to me.

Thing about that is 3,000 a semester is more than enough to cover 2 years at a most Tennessee community colleges. When I went to Roane State (2003-04, 04-05) the semester full time tuition wasn't over 2,000. Therefore UPS, given that the tuition is somewhat similar today, would pay for your first 2 years of college allowing you to earn money with them and their health benefits are awesome. There are people that have full time jobs making great money that will throw in a weekend shift at UPS just for the benefits.
