UT defense

To expound upon those points, Bowling Green and Oklahoma are currently ranked 1st and 6th, respectively, in passing offense (Passing Offense | FBS Football Statistics - NCAA.com), and 2nd and 14th, respectively, in total offense (Total Offense | FBS Football Statistics - NCAA.com).

yep. and i think the only other offense we will play that will be close to that "dynamic" will be UGA.

things will settle down nicely for our defense. and while i'm not 100% convinced we'll win this weekend, i don't see this turning in to a rout or shout out. defensively, this game should play well for us.

and those stats include your defense that is as equal to ours according to some fans....

i don't think anyone with a set of eyeballs believes that UF's defense isn't good. and if UF were to win, it will likely have a good deal to do with your defense.

all we're saying is we've played two, for the sake of argument, decent offensive teams, that most teams will find it to be difficult to stop all together.

Again please someone tell me how great your defense is?! I know you all have some great players but overall not a unit as good as ours top to bottom. I love Reeves-Maybin, Barnett and Sutton plus Todd Kelly is coming along for a young player but that is it. Here are the stats through 3 games. I will give you OK to help with the tougher schedule but also ECU we had 4 defensive starters out. :boxing2:

Our Defense can be lights out. Our numbers are skewed from playing a big boy out of conference game. Oklahome would curb stomp Florida!

I agree but also too if your defense is better than advertised those teams shouldn't be that high on the offensive ranking correct?? Just making a point. If it were this way later in the year then I can see it but that is the ranking after only 3 games.

This week, UT's defense will be facing the 2nd worst offense they have played against so far this year in the Gators. The Gators will be facing the best offensive opponent they will have played so far this year. Quit looking at the stats. You might not like what you see come Saturday afternoon.

Well we have played tougher competition than the gators have so far on the offensive side of the ball. Our defense isn't as good as yours but it's still very good.

A little more bad news for ya:

USA Today | Sports | NCAAF

Not really if you read the definitions and the actual numbers......

The PREDICTOR, is such that the score is the only thing that matters.
PREDICTOR is also known as PURE_POINTS, BALLANTINE, RHEINGOLD, WHITE OWL
and is a very good PREDICTOR of future games.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
GOLDEN_MEAN also utilizes the actual SCORES of the games in a different way but is also completely SCORE BASED
and thus should be a good match for the PURE POINTS in terms of predictive accuracy for upcoming games.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The RECENT, is score-based and weights RECENT play more heavily than earlier games. Its effect will become
more pronounced the longer a season goes if a given team happens to have an upward or downward trend.

RATING W L T SCHEDL(RANK) VS top 10 | VS top 30 | PREDICTOR | GOLDEN_MEAN | RECENT
HOME ADVANTAGE=[ 2.65] [ 2.65] [ 2.65] [ 2.65]
21 Tennessee A = 83.04 2 1 0 65.78( 68) 0 0 0 | 0 1 0 | 83.15 20 | 82.06 25 | 82.21 24
38 Florida A = 78.92 3 0 0 59.34( 117) 0 0 0 | 0 0 0 | 78.67 39 | 81.40 28 | 82.18 25

According to recent which I would go by you are 24 and we are 25.

The game will come down to special teams.

If it comes down to field position, Vols get the edge.

You have also played NMSU and ECU. ECU almost lost to Towson and did lose to Navy. New Mexico State may be the worst team in FBS football. This whole total defense thing is stupid after just 3 games. UT obviously wont be 12th when the seasons concludes. I understand you are trying to paint us in the worst light that you can though. Good try. This whole list is ridiculous. Everybody also knows Ole Miss is not the 13th best defense in the SEC. They are top 4. It's cool though, if you think our defense isnt good then you will see Saturday. You guys couldnt even move the ball on UK and they gave up about 50ppg the last stretch of last season and return all but their best two players from last yr.

Tennessee has also played a double overtime game which can really skew the stats against the defense. They played much better vs Oklahoma than the numbers would indicate.

Even taking the double-overtime factor into consideration, Tennessee held Oklahoma to 348 yards of total offense, 425 less than Tulsa yielded (773) in regulation. Conversely, Mayfield finished our game with 233 yards of total offense and was 19-39 passing for 187 yards, 3 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. Against Tulsa, he established a single-game school record with 572 yards of total offense (487 passing, 85 rushing and 4 touchdowns through the air, with 2 more on the ground). Part of that productivity was out of necessity. Like our opening game opponent, Bowling Green, Tulsa is coached by an Art Briles protégé, who is very adept at playing pinball offensive football, with no concern whatsoever for defense.

not necessarily. it's like playing GT with the best Rushing Defense...inherently GT is going to do what they're going to do. they don't change it, they don't stop it, and they do it differently than you're used to.

so even the best rushing defenses give up rushing yards to GT.

it's no different when you play these up tempo passing attacks like BGSU. a good defensive performance against teams like this may be getting timely turnovers, limiting to field goals or making them take long drives so they can't get more possessions....there's plenty of ways to play defense, and just because you can rack up yards, doesn't mean you were effective as an offense, based on the type of defense you were playing.

which is exactly how i would describe our defensive effort against BGSU. against OU, it was different, we were able to get pressure on the QB, we limited the running game, and played all around better pass defense. what we didn't do was limit possesions in the 4th qtr. part of that was our inability to get 1st downs offensively.

bottom line, stats are stats. but they don't tell the story of how you got where you were going, nor do they justify what was done to get there.

the bottom line is...did you get there?

After watching this gator team play so far this year , I would be quietly hoping for the best on Saturday

lol true

ive seen their last two games and im not real sure what everybody freaking out about? Their D is good but it always is. The offense still looks garbage. UK is a terrible defensive team and they were still awful. Kelvin Taylor averaged about 2 YPC. Thats insane to me. D Rob was also a non factor. That should never happen.

There is no question that you have an outstanding defense. Let us see, however, how your opponents stacked up offensively: East Carolina (29th, passing offense; tied for 82nd total offense), Kentucky (95th, passing offense; 102nd total offense), New Mexico St. (34th, passing offense; 59th total offense). For what little it is worth, I believe that it is safe to say that our defense has been challenged more severely than yours thus far.

I don't think Florida is anywhere near as good as OKlahoma offensively, and we held them to 3 points for the better part of 3.5 quarters defensively. Our offense is the problem this year.

I actually enjoy what some of the UF posters bring on here. This guy though. Total clown.
