I have heard many sides to this argument and have asked a couple of people what they thought and got several different answers. So, I started digging and this is what I came up with.....
Charlie Weis of Notre Dame was paid $4.2 Million in 2008.
Pete Carroll of USC was paid $3.8 Million in 2008, as was Bob Stoops and Les Miles.
Nick Saban made $3.75 Million in 2008.
So let's take those number right there for a little perspective on our coaching staff, but first let's list CLK, CMK, and CEO's total salaries.....
Lane Kiffin = $2 Million in his first season.
Monte Kiffin = $1.2 to $1.5 Million
Ed Orgeron = $590K-$650K
So if my math is correct, those three coaches combined will earn between $3.79-$4.1 Million this year. Looks like we are up there with the Top Tier programs now in compensation and looks like we have three people right now on staff that could be head coaches. I hate to tell those complaining about it, but you have to pay people to get/retain GOOD coaches. We have arguably the greatest coaching staff in the nation.
In closing, I would just like to offer a bit of a suggestion to Doug Matthews and Jimmy Hyams, who were and have been complaining over the past few weeks about coaches salaries, keep your opinions to yourselves. We, the university, the players, and the fans, want to compete with the best and honestly I don't think we have ever been in such a better position to do so. Get over yourselves and either get on board or go root for Vandy or Bama. You obviously don't give enough if any credit to CLK for taking a paycut to get the equivelant of 3 coaches in one HC's salary. BTW, just think if we would have hired Gruden or Davis and the fact they would have commanded $4 Million or more each.
