Hope is there for him. I know he had the best record in year one but also followed probably the best coach in history for us. Time will tell.
True, but he wasn't given much time at all to really construct his roster with TVs timing and then even worse with Anderson leaving late. We definitely need a new pitching coach. I wonder if Frank is actually enjoying MLB type life and would consider coming back?

Win difference for Tennessee baseball coaches in Year 1 compared to previous season:

Elander: -8

Vitello: +2

Serrano: -1

Raleigh: -7

Delmonico: +5

Connor: +4

Whited: +7

Wright: -3

Cafego: -7

O’Neil: +3

Anderson: -9
Elander did fine this year, especially given the circumstances, but touting his first season success as a major accomplishment without any context is very Butch Jones-esque. He kept the train on the tracks. I’m looking forward to seeing the team he puts together in the coming weeks and hoping we can build on this year’s success.

No other coach walked into a team like Elander did. I don’t care what their overall record was. They won a ton of non conference games at the start of the year. The team follows the coach and the coach didn’t bring anything out of them. I didnt see an alpha player really step up and that is one of the most important jobs as a coach. Most of us are capable of turning in a lineup card and making a few adjustments in game. He has got teach his players to have the gonads to step up when it’s needed and he failed at it.

There are reasons to be critical, especially with some pitching decisions. To be fair to Elander, they were only one game worse in conference play this season vs last with a less talented roster IMO.

LSU, Ole Miss and Vandy all had bad years compared to previous years so the one less loss thing isn’t a game changer.

I thought he did well given the circumstances, Arvidision, krensel , Frederickson were thought to be big bullpen arms, sophomores were not as good as we thought they would be, mack shutting down for arm soreness didn't help at the end. Defense was better, not sold on the pitching coach yet. But Tony had hired him to help Frank. We'll see.

I hope CJE‘s reputation as a good recruiter is legit because we need to attract some quality arms and big bats. I hope CTV wasn’t the real reason behind CJE’s recruiting success. We’ll know soon enough. GBO !!!

You can coach hitting, you can coach pitching, you can teach strength and conditioning, you CANT coach leadership.

Overall a good season considering the circumstances. I’m sure Coach Elander will focus on:

Retaining Key Returnees:
Grindlinger, Lawless, Clark, Abernathy, Brown, Appenzeller, Mack, and Moore

Portal Needs: (Minimum)
3 Power Bullpen Arms, 3 Starting Pitchers, SS, OF, 3B

Evaluation of Pitching Coach

That quality(leadership or “alpha dog”) comes out of a player in little league, not when he becomes a D1 college player and it’s certainly not because of his college coach.
You either have it or you don’t.
If you want to say E doesn’t provide the environment for that dog to bark, that’s one thing. But to say E is not the right coach because he can’t coach players into leaders, is crazy.

Nailed it. I would also add Eisfelder to the key returnee list.

Are you resigned to losing Wright, Marin, and Grimmer to MLB?

So you think a coach can force someone to be a leader? Please explain how that is done in one year? If they don’t have the desire to lead, or don't posses the gonads, your vernacular, NO coach can make that happen, especially in year one. New staff dynamics. I believe the change in pitching coach was the biggest negative this season. I do not believe the trust was there this year like last. I truly believe we would have easily broke the 40 win plateau this year had Frank stayed. Maybe even at least one win in the tournament.

Hopefully we can find someone who can put the bat on the ball.
31 strikeouts in the final two games ( we’re not talking about great pitchers here )
is beyond embarrassing.
