Saw a quote from Dooley the other day that said "Tenn will play a 1-AA team every year and he wouldn't apologize for that.

I spent some time at UT and graduated from UTC. Live in ATL now, Chattanoogans are a proud bunch.

Needless to say, they should be. I can't wait to get the hell out of ATL and back to Chattanooga! Place is awesome.

As for the football game, if UT is going to play that level of competition, than I would rather it be a team like UTC. Keep the money in state and give UTC a little practice for the socon.

I don't get the advantage of scheduling FCS schools every year? There's plenty of cupcake FBS schools we could schedule that would at least make us look a little better. Do FCS schools get lower payouts or something?

Fine with me. The SEC schedule takes care of most SOS issues anyway.

umm.. no it doesnt. Just ask Auburn in 2004.

Three teams went undefeated. Two of the three teams (USC and OKl) played a full D1 schedule. One team (Aub) played D1-aa Citadel. If the SEC SOS were to "take care" of the issues, Aub would have played in the NC game.

Playing a D1AA team can hurt more than help.

the great thing about these games is that you can take your sons and their friends that might have never seen a game. leave at half time and hit raferty's.

People fail to realize that conference strength is not something you can count on a few years into the future. The SEC has been on top for a while, but it will not always be that way.

All I know is that when UTC has played an SEC team the past two years, that team has gone on to win the MNC.

Not sayin', just sayin'.

The last time they played Chattanooga won. They tore down the goal posts and took them back to UTC.One of the posts is the handrail on the stairs at the Kappa Sig house

Citadel was FCS (1-AA) in '83
Don't know about the others.

Yep their last year at 1-A was 1981 according to this site....

Citadel Historical Data

Note however during their 1938 matchup they were "Small College", but one year later in 1939 they had moved up to "Major College".

Same site shows Pacific in the Big West which was 1-A until they dropped football. Pacific has never been 1-AA, although they were "Small College" affiliation 1943-49.

North Texas was 1-AA from 1983-1994 when they were in the Southland Conference. However in their matchup in 1975, where they won 21-14 vs the Vols they were NCAA Divison I, I think the split did not happen until a few years later by the NCAA.

I could have sworn either Akron or Pacific was a 1-AA team when we played them in 89 and 90.

My favorite non-conference game of all time. Beautiful cheerleaders as a young one and a 63-7 score I still fell in love with Pacific.:)
