If anyone is interested in attending, the UT Pride of the Southland Band will be having a practice sesson on Saturday, August 20 where they will be marching to Neyland Stadium. The time schedule (as of now) has the band leaving the bandroom at 9:00 AM. It takes about 20 minutes to march to the stadium. They practice their "Salute to the Hill" also. It's a great way to get a FOOTBALL FIX before the season starts. They will sometimes go into the stadium and run through their PREGAME show also. It's a great way to spend a Saturday morning. I've been going over for years!

Not if you are marching. Especially if that is also picture day for the band. I prayed to God that something would happen so I wouldn't have to stand out in the heat in that double layered wool uniform. Of course, you know God answers prayer and my stomach hurt like never before and wound up in the emergency room. The rest is really embarressing so maybe I'll save it for another time. :laugh1:

Sweet dude. I wish I could see it. I was in Tigerband last year (and all four years before that). I remember hanging out with the UT band during.....I think the 2000 matchup at Death Valley. We were talking on the sidelines. Nice buncha guys, and probably the only SEC band, if you ask me, that stands level with LSU's band. Even our director said so. Although, to be fair, Bama's band is no slouch either. Does the UT band parade to the stadium every game? Or is this just a one time deal?

They parade to the stadium before every home game. It's also awesome to go back for homecoming every year and parade to the stadium in the Alumni Band. Although, that march has been getting longer every year. I didn't realize that the band room was moving further away from the stadium. LOL

The bama band was at Neyland last year. They either had a bad day or are just not that good anymore, unless you just like watching their dance team dressed up like go-go girls in neon colors. Now the girls were quite nice, the band on the other hand......NOT.

Notre Dame's band was amazing. It was the best band I have ever seen, cept for the Pride, and i'll be honest, it was close.

POTSLB or alum, Have a favorite tune? We cant ever get enough of Rocky Top, But i have pointed out a few 80's songs from the band. Myself Ironman gets abit old, along with the "Jaws" theme.

Back to topic, I feel for our current band in this heat.
Lock those knee's for about a minute and your out! :snoring:

I like the "Mars" from Gustav Holst's The Planets. Wish they would add "Jupiter" tho. Favorite I played would have to be "Swing, Swing, Swing" One of the few things Jay Romines (former interim director after James Sparks ordeal) did right. As for the Bama band, they have changed directors and haven't been the same since. Saw them last year against OM and their band was better (that's sad). The MDB numbers are way down and were not that cohesive on the field.

Does anyone know who they picked to be major this year? Was it the girl or the awkwardly tall guy? They were trying out at the O&W game.

It's the chick. Let's hope they don't break tradition with the kneeling arched salute during the alma mater and replace it with the "splits" :p

Splits are a good thing! , Just hope she has the same stride Kenyon? (sp?) had.
He seemed to take 3 or 4, leaps and cover atleast 50 yards.
I really enjoyed the halftime KY game "Christmas".
Looked like a ton of work!

My daughter was in the band. I know what you are saying.

haha, Kelly got a lot of grief that year. The awkwardly tall guy, Jeremiah, was DM the following year. These were my freshman and sophomore years, respectively.

Trumpet Charge. (they dont play it any more). There were two of us tbone players that could play the tuba part with them.

Because of the construction they came down Peyton Mannning Pass instead of Andy Holt Ave, did the Salute there in front of the stadium. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if they do the march again when the road is clear, the directors like to spray paint some reference spots on the street, and obviously couldn't do that today. The drum major was a fairly short young man, maybe of Asian heritage. Not sure. Pride sounded pretty good, but had to ignore the weird echoes because they were facing the stadium.

I don't believe they'll have another chance to practice the March, however I could very well be wrong. I doubt it'll be a prayer at the first game, though. My guess is they may take the front half of the band down there to set up once, just to get the idea of where they'll be, exactly.

As for the Drum Major, his name is Alex White. He is a trumpet player "of Asian heritage" who went to Bearden. He's awesome. I hope he has a great year, as he really deserves it.

In the stadium they also set some charts of Pregame, however they didn't get to march the actual show, sadly. In previous years they were allowed to do most of the show (countermarch not withstanding), but perhaps the field wasn't in perfect condition today. Regardless, the show was at full size, and I'm very excited to cheer on the Pride!

Can't wait to see this year's edition of the Pride. Can't wait to hear them, either! I have a feeling they're going to be much louder this year, and even louder next year... ;)

History should put a * by last year's band and a footnote of how no group is too historical or important to dodge the Big Orange Screw. I hope all the band members Admissions didn't bother to admit last year get their chance to march this year.

Didn't the POTSMB struggle to get members last year? Do I remember reading that thread correctly last summer?

How is membership looking this year?

Admissions dropped the ball in a big way. They are back up to size this year.

Not the full story. The lack of new students showed the lack of many 3 and 4 year marchers.
