UT/ BAMA Rivalry

In my experience, a BAMA fan told me that the game to win every year is UT. Over UF, over AU... even over our period of mediocrity, BAMA hates UT more than any other school. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Every SEC team is rivals with eachother However it doesn't get more intense than UT vs Bama

If Alabama was forced to lose 1 game for the rest of their years, and they could choose between it being Auburn or Tennessee, Alabama fans will pick Tennessee. 'nuff said.

Just met an Auburn fan that tried to tell me that the Barn and BAMA rivalry was more important than the UT/BAMA rivalry. I of course told him differently. He argued that the in state added more to the importance. I was just curious to what Volnation thought.
I've lived in B'ham my whole life, my wife, in-laws and most of my friends are Bama fans as I bleed orange & white checkers; the UT/bama game is very important, however the Iron Bowl is one of the most powerful rivalries in college football. A bamer poisoned the barner's signature land mark & barner's dress the bear's final resting spot with their jerseys. Both fan bases get carried away!
Don't get me wrong, it's still painful living here, especially being the guy who proudly wore his orange during the 09' UT/bamer game...got a lot of (elephant) trunks in my face that day. Does that answer your question?

The odd thing about Tennessee football is that we're not viewed as the top rivalry by what we consider our top 2 rivals and we don't view the two teams that see us as their top rivalry as remotely our biggest game.

EDIT: That sentence is kind of tortured now that I read it.

I agree...UF has FSU.... BAMA has AUB.....USCjr has Clemson.... It's certainlly not Vandy or UK...I think it has to be Georgia they have Georgia tech but I think there fans veiw them kinda like we would UV or UK not really a rivalry....So if our 2 biggest rivals dont view us as there biggest rivals then we have to find a team who's fans do view us that way... Georgia... That or just go without :loco:

Georgia's rivalry with Florida is much more bitter than anything we have with UGA

I was wearing a huge orange hoodie with a giant white power T on it to the 09 game. Lots of heckling as well. Luckily my buddies car was parked in the lot next to the cemetery right outside the stadium.

The best game I have been to with the most horrible ending. The only thing that will top that is the same game except better ending...obviously.

No Terrence FUPA Cody. and then to play rammer jammer on top of that? they beat the hell out of nobody..

I still get nightmares time to time.. to think that kick would have prevented a BCS trophy...

All it will take is one good thumping by our VOLS and all those bandwagon bammer fans will hate us more than anybody once again. Most of their fans only became fans ,outside of alabama, only became fans in the last couple of years and the rest are too dumb to realize the significance on the rivalry with Tennessee.

They will argue with a wall. I live right in the middle of Alabama and have to put up with a lot of fans from both school. I'm just glad the I'm starting to see a whole lot more Vol fans down here.

Good luck with that, they will argue with a wall. They are all stupid. I live right in the middle of Alabama and have to put up with a lot of fans from both school. I'm just glad the I'm starting to see a whole lot more Vol fans down here.

I think the most intriguing thing about this argument is that there really is no right answer, IMO. I think that the way that our program is right now and like I said earlier, the way the divisions in our conferences have played out that we have kinda lost our vulnerability has a hatable (word?) school. The Florida GA game has definitely meant more for our division then the UT/GA game or the UT/FLA game has in years. And I wouldn't consider Vandy or UK a rivalry from our side. So i just don't know if there is a "right" answer. :dunno:

Older Bama fans would probably say UT and the younger generation would probably say AU. JMO.

I agree with this. I'd say it has to do with when they grew up, and how UT/Auburn are/were regarded at the time or in their households growing up.

Here's my take. I'm telling my age a little here because I remember this well. Up until about 1970 or 1971, the series between Bammer and the Vols was dead even (you can check the records). At the time I'd say that Bammer was DEFINITELY UT's biggest rivalry, AND UT was Bammer's biggest rivalry. BUT, when Coach Doug Dickey bolted for Florida, and Bill Battle took over UT's program, "The Bear" reeled off about 11 in a row against the Vols to make it a one sided series. Actually Bill Battle beat the Bear once in 1970. But anyway, the "rivalry" lost a lot of it's significance and Auburn became "the" rivalry for Bama. That's my opinion and it ought to be yours.:hi:

The fact that UT and Bama are playing every year and are in different divisions ought to say something to everyone, regardless of age, about how big this game is. UT and Bama are the conferences winningest programs. It only stands to reason that this would be a big rivalry and the biggest rivalry game for both teams.

If you measure a rivalry in terms of its historical significance, both on a conference and national basis, then the Tennessee-Alabama rivalry takes precedent. Indeed, it is, in my mind, the marquis Southern matchup, on a par with Michigan-Ohio State, Nebraska-Oklahoma (in the old days), Oklahoma-Texas and Notre Dame-USC (in ND’s heyday). As monumental as Florida-Florida State and FSU-Miami have become, they are comparatively recent developments in terms of their national importance. If, however, you measure a rivalry by the amount of emotion invested in it, Auburn-Alabama is in a class all by itself. It might as well be a blood feud between the Hatfields and McCoys.

If we become a prominent power again, bama will consider us more of rivalry the auburn. It's just about who is on top and is a challenge year in year out.

Just a side note, Neyland was hired to beat Vanderbilt. I know it sounds crazy but they used to beat us. He was so good that he made them irrelevant. Bear Bryant said everything he knew about coaching he learned from Neyland. So the general was so good that he led to the bear dominating us after Neyland retired.

I'd say Michigan/Ohio State is the biggest rivalry in college football. The hatred there is legitimately second-to-none.
