UT-Bama never meeting in SECCG

It's interesting that there have been a few SECCG rematches, but none have been permanent rivals.

Bama and Florida rematched in 1999
Florida and Auburn in 2000
UT and LSU in 2001
Georgia and LSU in 2003
UT and Auburn in 2004
Carolina and Auburn in 2010

But no UGA/Auburn, no UT/Bama, no Florida/LSU

i don't remember why the tiebreaker broke the way it did.

but, florida shared the top spot in the SEC East in 2003 when lsu went to the SEC title game.

however, georgia went to the SEC title game.

SEC championship is only 18 years old

and playing a team annually during the season often serves to hinder the loser in their divisional races, since it counts towards their conference record (which, in turn, also determines divisional standings)

there's not a terribly high percentage of rematches among any of the East-West annual matchups though (probably in part for that reason)

If I remember correctly wasn't there a three way tie for the east that year? Anyway, UG went to the SECC game.

The first SEC championship game wasn't played until 1992.

This. Neither team had been truly dominant at the same time since then.

Besides, we play them every year and a loss reduces the chances of one winning their division and getting to the championship game.

It happens every year on my NCCA College Football '11. I get to beat them once in the regular season and again in the SECC.

Greatest game I've ever played on that was an SEC Championship game against Bama. Overcame a 21-3 halftime deficit to score the winning TD with 11 seconds left and move on to the national championship.

TN's best chance to get to ATL this season is to sweep the east games, and lose to two of the three west teams. TN gets a new coaching staff early in UF, then gets UGA and USC at home. Sweep the east. Then beat one of LSU, ALA, ARK. Lets say TN beats LSU since it is at home and well its Les Miles. Two losses at Ala, and at ARK.

Ala wins the west.

TN is 10-2, and gets a rematch with Bammer in ATL!

I'll take that. Got feeling 5 SEC wins gets the East tho.

I think it's stranger that Bama has played in seven SECCGs and has played Florida all seven times.

Strange when you think on it. A loss to a rival from a different division just doesn't count as much. Playing every year should increase the odds that it does happen and then the caliber of the teams involved. Alabama, Auburn, LSU in the west, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida in the east. Only the Dawgs have failed to win a National Championship. Amazing it hasn't happened yet.

What it is saying is that keeping our natural rivals after going to two divisions, hasn't hurt the conference in the least.

Agree.

It could happen this year. I read an article this morning and the writer is predicting UT to take the east this year. Looks like Dooley is gaining fans

I'd like to see it but I'd give us a 25% chance. It's a four horse race...excluding vandy an ky of course.

When UT is up, Bama is down. When Bama is up, UT is down. Let's hope it reverses again soon:D

That seems the way it's been going...But I honestly only care about the Vols and I feel we ARE on the way up.I'd love to see the first play alittle crossing route to Justin and him take it to the house....ala 95.

Because since 1992 they've been garbage every year we've been good and vice-versa.

This is generally true, but 1999 was the exception. Both teams were in the top ten, we were in the national championship hunt until a late loss to Arkansas. But Florida went 11-2 that year (both losses to Bama), and we were shut out.

A third of the SECCGs have been regular season rematches. None have been annual rematches. I'm not sure there's any factor that you mentioned with annual rematches that's not a factor with regular season rematches. It's a statistical anomaly.
