Arkansas leaves and Georgia Tech rejoins the fold...

I think I heard the Big12 "commish" on the Dpatrick show and he said its def possible ark gets a look. However he also specif commented that tech wouldn't replace them bc of its current position in the ACC, too good of a gig going/ grass wouldn't have been greener was his point I believe.

I don't buy that we are leaving the strongest conference in america while we are a top10 athletic program imo . (I don't know what the actual rank is but I'd imagine its not lower than top25 overall in most categories.

We could create the Volunteer league. Get Notre Dame, And.................................... "Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries Volnation
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teaming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!... Let the big Orange Nation Be not ignored".

Just saying....

I heard the Detroit Lions were looking to be competitive and were inquiring about joining the Big 10, thus this rumor is false

The University of Tennessee in America's Crappiest Conference???
I think we would burn more than mattresses if this was to happen!!!

There is so much wrong with this...this would leave the SEC with 9 teams, and saying that Tennessee makes more geographic sense as part of the Atlantic Coast than the Southeast--when it has no coast at all--is pretty much ridiculous.

It looks like Missouri will, in the next year or so, be invited and agree to join the Big 10. This leaves an opening for Arkansas to rejoin the Big 12, which they have been wanting to do for years. This leaves the SEC with only eleven members and unable to have the very profitable SEC Championship game.

After the next football season, which will regretably be a losing one for Tennessee, the University will have two choices: 1) Stay in a conference where several schools (most notably Auburn, Alabama and LSU) are buying top recruits right and left, and be mediocre for years or 2) take their stellar basketball program to the ACC, which geographically makes more sense. I have no doubt that the Atlantic Coast Conference would welcome them with open arms, especially if UK also joined.

That is dumb. Not only is UT a charter member of the SEC, look at Ga. Tech they left the SEC for the ACC and have been kicking themselves ever since. It's a lateral move to a lesser conference and believe you me the trustees and boosters would NEVER let that happen.

As for GTech I would love to see them back in the SEC. I`d hate to lose arkansas. I liked both them and SC as an addition.

This whole idea is stupid, really. First, who says Arkansas has been wanting to rejoin the Big 12? None of the Arkansas fans I know want that to happen; and any time I've heard it discussed, they claim nobody at the university who has a say in the matter wants that either. Also, the ACC stands for Atlantic Coast Conference... you know, as in programs that reside in states along the Atlantic Coast. UT and UK hardly fit the bill.

Even if the Tiny Televen gets Mizzou for its 12th team, all the Big 12 will do is add TCU to be back at 12. Arkansas, UK, and UT aren't going anywhere. Teams wouldn't leave the SEC anyway, as long as they're not forced to... the SEC is where the money is. Every time the SEC puts a team in the NC game, the 12 teams get a piece of the $15-20 million pie that goes with it. Add all the payouts from the numerous other bowls we put teams in, and any program that is already an SEC member would be foolish to voluntarily join an inferior conference. Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face.

Schlabach does a pretty good job of prognosticating about what the next decade will bring, including this very topic: Gazing into college football's crystal ball and predicting the next decade - ESPN

Nobody gave this thread any second thought. I know. But think about this. Kentucky and Tennessee are likely not goin anywhere. But IF they did, to be honest Tennessee would be walking right back into the same crap. Miami is the new Bama in the next few yrs, and Va Tech is getting ready to be Florida north. Nothing would change and we would be in a league that for TN right now, we could not win any more than we already do. In 5 yrs who knows, but even the ACC lays the smack down on us right now.
Secondly, I do agree that I see South Carolina going there. They would be happy there (they could win a few more games) in both the revenue sports. I also see Ga Tech happy here (however, I see them becoming a powerhouse in the revenue sports similar to Bama, becuse the commissh always favors (with referees, rulings, special favors, etc) the big money places and ATL is definitely one of those. We know he gives the boys near birmingham soem serious passes when it comes to treatment of their transgressions, and allows Ky to do their thing in BBall without punishment.
Interesting, but I do not see TN moving, nor Ky. I do see the Ga Tech for south Carolina swap though.

Miami will NEVER be Miami again, much less Bama... especially if they stick with Randy Shannon. And, as long as they're only willing to cough up $1-2 million for a coach (which has been the case for the last few years), they'll be stuck with him. If you've paid any attention to their recruiting class, you know they aren't poised to accomplish anything.

VT isn't about to be Florida North, either. They've pretty much plateaued. They're always competitive in the ACC, and stay around the top; but when it comes to competing at the higher levels, against programs from far superior conferences like the SEC, they just don't have the horses. And, if you've followed their recruiting over the years, you can see why. They're kind of stuck where they are; a top ACC team still only equals a middle of the road or also-ran nationally.

As for GT, they were already in the SEC, and left for the ACC, where they could be more competitive.

UT could go into the ACC right now, with the talent they already have, and be a top contender for the ACC Championship. But, that's the point... who cares about a championship from the worst conference in college football?
