UT and Bama, on paper

bama is replacing, i think, 3 starters on their OL... an our defensive front 4 is legit. this is the most important aspect of the game. can we control the line on defense? if yes, it's a VERY close game, if not then it'll be a long day. hopefully, special teams coverage improves a lot from georgia to the bammer game

Ole Miss was in bama's back field the whole game. Our D's better than Miss. Ingram's the work horse for that bama running game. Gotta shut him down and make McElroy pick himself off the ground when he drops back to pass.

Like I said earlier today, We should have Hardesty come down with the flu about next Thursday or Friday, and not play versus Alabama. Maybe Berry also, but especially Hardesty. I believe the game is far beyound winnable and why get Hardesty hurt against Bama. There are far more important games ahead for us to get bowl eligible that we cannot, and I repeat cannot, win without Hardesty. Namely South Carolina and Kentucky. If Hardesty goes down we end up 5-7 simple as that.

That's ridiculous.

I hope this bye week helps Chris Walker's back. He hasn't been the same player since he hurt it in the first half of the Ohio game. We'll need him to be a disruptive pass rusher against Bama.

That's why they play the game. Bad matchups across both lines of scrimmage and their special teams are the reason were not getting out of there with a W. It would make our year though and stranger things have happened, but it's just not likely. It's looking like the SEC Championship might as well be the de facto National Championship as both teams will likely be undefeated heading into it. History might help us out though as it really doesn't matter how good a team is, it's still hard to run the table in the regular season. Not too many teams have done it and it would be two years in a row for Bama. Tall order... great team or not.

Ditto, TREVOLS81! We have a shot against Bama. If we make McElroy nervous, we get picks. If we can get a GA performance out of JC, it will be close. If he is off, we lose. But look out next year, GO VOLS!!

I cannot start my own thread yet, so i am just going to ask this here. We are in the SEC east and Bama is in the SEC west, but we play them every year. So my question is, does everyone have an opponent from the other division that the play every year or do they just rotate their opponents?

Ktown, every SEC team has one opponent always the same and two rotating opponents from the opposite division annually. Welcome aboard to you and Volcrewchief to VolNation.

That is the most ridiculous comment I've ever seen from a supposed Vols fan. I would rather lose (going down with both guns blazing) than lay up against Bama! For cripes sake man, where are your co-jones?

considering how bad our offense has been at times this season...and the turnovers we've given up..from a purely defensive standpoint i bet we are even, maybe slightly better. That doesn't change what is on paper though.

Has bama played a legit defense yet this year? Their offensive numbers seem high considering the offense they run.

va tech...

This bama team is like the bama teams of old--hard nosed, with an emphasis on running the ball and stopping the run. They are not an especially good passing team, either--but I give them an edge on both sides of the ball--not a big edge, but an edge. Turnovers will figure large in this game--watch. I'd like to see Kiffin give the punt-return job to Rogan--what is he thinking with NUKE? Just a BAD decision.

RE Hardesty: If he had a little more wiggle he'd be leading the nation in rushing. How many times has he burst through the LOS only to be tackled by a DB--last line of defense? Many.

Bama's OL is young and not what they've become used to talent wise. OTOH, Ole Miss has a talented D and especially up front.

CMK is definitely better than Nix.

Yeah, we know VBN, they are better than us, but here it is on paper

Yards per game
Bama: 444
Vols: 392

Passing yards
Bama: 1327
Vols: 1254 (Good, considering the terrible games Crompton has had)

Rushing yards
Bama: 1341
Vols: 1102

Defense

Rushing yards allowed

Bama: 394
Vols: 661

Passing Yards allowed

Bama: 929
Vols: 971

Total yards allowed avg per game

Bama: 220
Vols: 272

Actually, kind of even with the edge to Bammer

If we don't throw the ball like we did last week, and rush for at least 100+ yards we're going to be looking at a 3-4 record

Good Post..... but you might want to throw in there that our backups have played for 4 qtrs.

Yes I am a vol fan, but a realistic vol fan. I do not take the game versus Georgia and run with it, and forget that we lost to UCLA and Auburn, who are not that good, and we were favored over. Alabama is No. 2 in the nation, and we are not even in the top 40. The game is not in Knoxville. Hey, we cannot win. Simple as that. Why get some one hurt for nothing. Lets win the South Carolina and Kentucky game and get bowl eligible. Forget Alabama. They are out of our league.

Your last two posts are absolutely ridiculous, seriously.

We should just forfeit and keep the whole team free from possible injuries.

We just gotta lock up on special teams and I think we'll give Bama a game. Just stating the obvious...don't mind me.

You can twist what I say anyway you want to, but the bottom line is that we cannot beat South Carolina without Hardesty. We probably can't even beat Kentucky without Hardesty. Now run Hardesty in the ground versus Alabama, and let them injure him, and there you are. Use some sense, man, and you quit being rediculous. Just wait and watch that Hardesty comes down with an injury right before the Alabama game and doesn't play.

Can someone please tell me how to use the ignore feature?
