im tennessee FOOTBALL all the time but.... i really could care less about tennessee basketball. i have almost the same level of passion for my beloved kansas jayhawk basketball. I was kind of curious how that sits with u guys who claim to love tennessee. And id be willin to bet that we have more than a few others that have different schools for different sports.
Could we get a ban over here in aisle nine?

I love Vols Football, Basketball, and any other sport the UT has.....Im with CICEROMESSIAH I just don't see why you would root for UTK in football, but root against them in say basketball

Here's my stand. I want UT to win no matter what sport or event. A good friend told my he'd watch UT play water polo if they had it....I agree completely. BUT I HATE basketball...the sport. I just don't get it, I've never understood it. BUt when UT plays basketball I want them to win...sorry you all just took the time to read that pointless ramble.

I don't care if it's the sausage-hiding competition at the national gay-pride day... The team from TN has my support... (I'm almost ashamed to admit that, but it's true) GO VOLS!!!!

UT has water polo and I've cheered for them (at least they had it when I was in school).

i've never really understood why some people are for one college in one sport and a different college in another. i'm not saying everyone that does this is like what i'm about to say, but the whole concept seems like it should be associated with bandwagon fans. i keep up with ut football the most, but i always hope that ut can finish up there at the top in every sport.

In southern California there are a lot, lot of people who root for USC in football and UCLA in basketball. I have never understood that at all. It's like rooting for the Nazis at the beginning of WWII and the Allies at the end. I know people like to follow a winner but mama mia!

Cheers.

I just hope that some of you that love the UT football but are a fan of a different basketball team don't jump on the bandwagon when UT wins a basketball championship. That would just piss me off.

This also applies if you like one football team but like Tennessee's basketball. If we win a championship in football, don't come jumping on that bandwagon either.

I don't see how people have fandom for 2 schools, unless they went to both of those schools. But, to each his own.

Tennesee football fan and Duke basketball fan. When I first started playing organized basketball as a kid I idolized Bobby Hurley because we played the same position, ever since then Duke has been my number one basketball team, but I cheer for UTK as well in the sport.

My uncle went to Duke and I also am a Duke basketball fan. My first loyalty is always to Tennessee, but being a Duke fan made me aware that basketball existed and I bothered to learn learn about the game, which makes me appreciate Tennessee's recent success that much more.
As to why people are for so many different basketball teams, Tennessee basketball was so bad for so long and got so little coverage it was hard to follow them pre internet and people drifted to UNC and Duke and Memphis and Kentucky because of proxemity and to other schools because of family ties or they went to school there.
Being a Duke basketball fan actually made me a better Tennessee basketball fan because I understand the game better from watching Duke in the 80's and 90's.

I follow other schools but the Vols are by far the closest to my heart.

The whole rooting for one school in one sport and another in another sport just seems very bandwagonnish and unloyal.

I like both BYU and UT about equal, since I have one piece of paper from BYU and am in the process of getting another one from UT!:)

What about growing up a fan of one team, and ending up going to a rival school? I grew up a Gator, but had no problem "seeing the light" when I came to Tennessee.

Vol all the way. And what's funny is all the East Tennessee natives that like UNC in basketball, but I guess everyone likes a winner...no matter where they're at.

Because when alot of us were growing up, Tennessee basketball was so god awful that rooting for them was a waste of time. Its like rooting for a team with an inept front office in the NFL, like the Bungles. You are just going to be dissappointed.

So, as a child, if I wanted to watch college basketball and actually ROOT for a team (which obviously makes it more fun than just watching a game and being indifferent), UNC was one of the closer schools, and due to their success, they were on TV alot. I liked the way they played and they were coached. Aaannd I really hated duke...and coach K.

Since then, I have become less of a roundball fan, but I still follow the Vols basketball team (you may call me a fair weather fan if you'd like, but rooting for them now is not akin to punching yourself in the genitals), but not nearly the way I do about our football team. If Tennessee is knocked out of the NCAA tourney and UNC is still playing, I will root for them, but other than that, I don't root for UNC (unless they are playing Duke and the outcome doesn't effect Tennessee in the rankings in any way)
