Did you watch this game? Utah trails for most of the game, coached by Kyle Whittingham who is known as being very conservative. Playing at home he decides to change his philosophy goes for it on 4th and 1 from USC's 12, they make, his team responds and they come back to win 31-27. Subsequently they converted two more 4th downs to win the game. The lesson for Butch is clear. The game turned on his not going for the sure fg and giving and showing his team confidence to come back and win. Butch learn this mindset for this game and we win, take nothing from this and it goes to 12 straight.

Crazy. Maybe someday butch can go for it on several fourth downs early in a game to show confidence in his team when they are down by a few scores and need a boost. That would be crazy. And maybe on one of those fourth downs josh smith will take it to the house. And then maybe on the ensuing kickoff the other team will fumble and we can recover it and punch it in for another score.

Hopefully butch was watching Utah last night so he could learn something.

Helton may be one and done at SC. His team has quit on him 3 successive weeks. He gets a new AD this year and SC much like the Vols do not tolerate losing and a bad product on the field. CBJ needs to take that lesson to the bank as well with a new AD coming in, he may have one more season in 2017 and being done if he cannot get a signature SEC win this year. I like CBJ and support him but with this team 120's talent and experience if he cannot win the SEC East, he may never be able to do it.

Not only that, but their only two drives in the 4th quarter took up 10 mins of clock and they were 3/3 on 4th & 1. Great use of time outs as well, that last drive was a beaut. 15 plays, 93 yards! The drive before that was 11 players and 75 yards. Major props to Utah and Whittingham.

It has been statistically shown many times that teams should go for it on 4th and 1. The odds are very high of making it. Now, if you're on your own 20, you probably don't want to go for it--and maybe if you're playing a great defense, you punt. But the odds are in your favor, so why give it to the other team? Spurrier spooked the conservative Phil Fulmer for years by going for it on 4th. Spurrier, facing 4th and 9, at our 40, yard line, would go for it. Fulmer, facing 4th and half a yard from the florida 30, would kick a FG. Jones has got a lot of game-day Fulmer in him, which has cost him--and us--some victories.
