USC fans: Worley has a Water pistol arm

Didn't want to through every page on this thread, but I will say this and if it has been already said move on.

Danny W was successful due to Spurrier designing patterns that fit his skillset. He was very accurate and made very quick decisions as he was very intelligent and football smart. Spurrier used diagonal schemes that were of the 15-25 yard variety - primarily toward the sidelines where his WR caught it or it went out of bounds since the safeties could not get there in time if they were in zone. He would also drag a WR under the coverage on crossing patterns using play action since he had a good running game. Lastly, he always used a good receiving TE that was really a big WR and would have them work the middle of the field.

Worley throws a ball that drops into the receiver's hands on mid-long throws similar to Danny W. Justin has more arm strength, so it's just a question of whether he can read the D quickly enough and get a good tempo. That comes with playing and seeing many schemes. They will have him key on specific opposing players, read zone/man using motion, or look for the overload/blitz until he is able to read the schemes. So I think CJC will give Spurrier some of his own medecine in the passing game with the diagonal design, at least initially.

Anybody that thinks Justin Worley is not capable of being a big-time SEC QB simply does not know what he/she is talking about.

Manning doesn't have a laser rocket arm, yet by all standards, is one of the best ever

Exactly. One of the criticisms of Manning when he first got here was his arm strength. One of the criticisms when he went to the NFL was his arm wasn't strong like Ryan Leaf's.

For that matter, Joe Montana didn't have a laser cannon for an arm either.

The point is that not every rocket arm has been a successful quarterback and not every kid with an average arm has been a bust at quarterback.

When we say arm "strength" it is not realting to muscles. It means how far and how hard they can throw the football. That is not a muscle thing. It is just natural. Bray does not have a cannon because of his flawless technique. Its a natural gift.

Exactly. Otherwise, Jacquez Smith would be playing QB.

how many 30+ yard passes is he expected to throw. as long as he's accurate in short-med range, he'll be fine. get the ball out of his quick and on target that's the key

+1

danny W would just lob the ball in the air and the receivers would run under it. he did quite well doing that.

hey idiots, stop bashing this kids arm until you see him play.

I have a feeling worley might have given USC the impression offering him would have been a waste of their time. He had Clemson in his final 10 and they didn't offer.

If Jim Harbaugh offered him a scholly, then I'm not worried about if he can play QB or not.

Agree totally. Unless something has changed recently, and no penalties, 10 yards will get UT first downs all day long.

Hyams said yesterday that he thinks Simms has a more powerful arm. That being said, I think Hyams is generally wrong.

Freddie Kithchens' right arm was a cannon. What the hell does that have to do with being a competent quarterback?

Shaw has beaten two SEC teams. Better than Worley.

By himself??..Wow what a stud..In reality, SC won IN SPITE of Shaw..And FYI, Worley has yet to PLAY against an SEC team for more than one meaningless series..But both of those situations could change this Saturday......

wasnt bray also overlooked my pretty much every other D1 school other than like san diego st.?

Yea Worley actually had a lot better offer list than Bray and Bray was a 4 star, Worley a 3. Just goes to show, grading these QB's in high school is usually a crap shoot and you dont know what you're getting till you see them on the field.

I can't believe anyone would care with USCe fans thought in the first place. These people have absolutely nothing to hang their hats on.

Worley is an accurate Qb with a quick release and a knack for getting the ball out of his hands quickly. He is also very tall so he has good pocket vision.

I wouldn't say he has a laser rocket arm a la Bray or Manning though.

So he's like Simms's evil twin?

Erik Ainge, this morning on his radio show, said that "Worley has a cannon". Now, I certainly don't know if that is the case...but he has seen him and if he DID have a noodle arm he sure wouldn't say that.

Erik pretty much, uh, speaks his mind.

Well, now I am really pumped to see this kid play. I really like the point some one made earlier - SC won't have any film on what the coaches like to do with him. Hopefully CJC has a really good scripted first drive that will lead to points and build him some confidence!

Go Vols.

Is Worley known for a weak arm? Is that why Spurier didn't offer?

Remember that Joe Montana never had a strong arm, not that Worley will be a Montana.

Truth of the matter is a QB that can read the defense and has good smarts doesnt have to have a cannon, as a matter of fact ol Kenny Stabler comes to mind also and Im sure there are many more.

Who is our deep threat now? Da'Rick has safeties coming over to double him and Zach R. couldn't catch it if you handed it to him. So, no need for a strong arm. Lots of short throws......completed and moving the chains is all we need to free up the defense a little bit so we can establish the run game.

Water pistols aren't what they used to be......
