Why didn't Alvin start his first game here? He was not ready. When was he ready?
Why didn't JK start his first game here? He wasn't ready. When was he ready?

When they arrived they were both behind a guy that should have become the all time leading rusher at TN.

I love JK but he didn't act like a leader in the FL game. Was he ready to be a leader?

Seriously????

the coaches are idiots and don't know how to properly evaluate talent. For instance not starting Alvin Kamara after he broke the all-purpose yardage record.

Just idiotic coaching and personnel decisions.

Have we even seen Elliott Berry (who was recruited as an ATHLETE) at linebacker?
Evan Berry on defense? Evan Berry on offense?

Is Kick returning really all we can do with Evan Berry's athleticism and ball carrier vision?

Where IS Tyler Byrd???

Umm... Yes???

Indiana State we played the starter most of the game failed to get any reps for any of the talented backups that just need experience. Now that we've had another linebacker go down guess some of these players like Ignont will have to play because of numbers.

JK didn't act like a leader in the Florida game? Do you realize the final score is probably 20-3 without Kelly?

Couldn't run nickel to win the game bc of injuries....

But Tyler Byrd is 3rd on the depth chart at slot receiver....

LOL.

Everyone is crying for Tyler Byrd. When he has played In which you said that guy is a superstar he just needs more playing time?

High school coaches can force players into positions or bench them. Unless you family is willing to move, your stuck. It is not the same with college players. College players can go to wherever they want and they can transfer if they want. So, coaches in college have to allow players to select their position. If the player insists on selecting the wrong position they get buried on the depth chart.

Last season Kongbo did not want to play tackle and wanted to play defense of end. Playing some DE got him on the field sooner. He was behind Derek Barnett.

If you have played sports you know there is a unique story to each player. Some have great careers and some don't reach their potential. It is like a jig saw puzzle the right player, in the right system, playing the right position with the right work ethic .., thrives. You may have a super star athlete that can't remember his name that sits the bench because he makes the same mistakes over and over.

I think there is a whole dimension to this team (or any team) that we don't see as fans. A large part of that would be the mentality and education of these young men. It would not surprise me to learn that Butch includes academics to determine his depth chart. (I've always believed Josh Dobb's poor performance during last year's SC games was owed to that bag of textbooks he carried to the game). This interest in a player's academics would be very attractive to a recruit's parents.

Butch is still trying to red shirt people to stack depth for future years. Maleik Gray anyone? Only problem is he needs to win now. Stupid to leave anyone more talented on the bench.

Can someone tell me why, if we are thin at positions, are we playing our starters at punt and kick return? And if we are not going to make as much use of clearly talented skill players in their positions, why are they not used in these instances. Ex. Tyler Byrd does not get used as much as he should on offense and is not listed as the starter as his position. He is clearly talented. Why is he not returning kickoffs and punts instead of our number 1 wr and safety?
Can someone tell me why we are thin in year 5???

Watching FL game again, Jumper missed a tackle on a critical 3rd down late in the game. All he had to do was hold contain on the edge until help came but the RB ran right by him. Butch playing him is coaching malpractice... not to mention, not having a prevent D lol. Complete joke.

Special teams has played great, starters play because it's a weapon if we execute. We have more kick returns in butches tenure than the last 20 years probably.

If I was ranked nationally as the #10 cornerback coming out of high school and was currently sitting 3rd on the depth chart at slot receiver I'd be pretty pissed

Married to Mosely: Isn't he the player that lined up 7 yards of the florida receiver on one play, dropped back another 5 yards when the ball was snapped--and then when it was passed to the receiver, who of course had plenty of room to catch and run because of all the space he was given, our corner came forward and his knees buckled and he fell to the ground without touching the receiver who was running past him?

Byrd not playing much is just another example of how dumb our coaches are. But look at Dobbs--he should have played long before he finally did. We've got dumb coaches. This is what you get in college--coaches with big salaries who really aren't very astute.

If I were Byrd, I would give serious thought to transferring if this keeps up. Too much natural talent

Butch heard the complaints about Byrd not being utilized as a DB if he was going to spend all his time on the sidelines, and has responded accordingly in his usual manner. Byrd will likely see some action on offense this weekend against UMass. Case settled.:)

I'm not a Butch fan, but the one thing you cannot complain about during his tenure at UT is the special teams coverage and returns. That's the one aspect of each week where I always feel like we have the advantage.

The only position we are truly thin at is linebacker and that's no excuse. Alabama has been playing without 5 linebackers and they don't miss a beat.

Just seems like we have players on the bench that are talented and butch should figure out how to use them and get them on the field. If he doesn't trust them completely to handle a full time role, put them in where their skills can be taken advantage of. Get em on the field so they make plays and don't transfer.
