USA Today......"Time to let him go"

So, wasn't it a couple of weeks ago that Heup was commenting that he wanted to see Nico take more of a leadership of the team? At the time, I thought it was a strange thing to say out loud. And, now I heard that Heup may have known Nico was a flight risk three weeks ago. Was he trying to smoke Nico out? If so, perhaps a replacement list has already been made. Go Vols.

I've been a Nico fan, I've been defending him, but if he's blowing off practice to negotiate or prove a point, I'm done with his azz. He's way off too good to replace. I absolutely hate the new reality.
I was a hold out until we heard from Heupel himself. Now that we have I support the Vols and those on staff leading them. I'm not going to take shots at Nico on his way out of town. However this was a personal character test for him in my opinion. You know one of those fork in the road moments the fates, the Divine, or whatever you think rules this timeline sets up for all of us along the way of our lives. We all have multiple moments like this in our lives. The difference between most of us and Nico is ours does not play out on a national stage. He failed miserably. I have failed some of my own and if most of us are honest we likely all have failed at a few as well. For his own sake I hope he gains the wisdom to take the high road when confronted with one of these fork in the road moments again when they pop up in his life. However Big Orange fans can be found the world over and very few of us will forget how he choose to manage this episode of his life.

I'll take an 8 win season to prove to these b!tch azz type players that this kind of "negotiation" won't be tolerated. If you attempt to hold the university hostage at the 11th hour for a money grab, we'll help you pack your things.

I keep hearing about Nico Iamgonnaleaveya's talent, but all he's shown so far is the massive amount of improvement he still needs to make. He can kick rocks.
Is this Vol team closer to a .500 team without Nico?

Pay him and see how the season plays out. If yall think a transfer learning the system or merk/mac is ready, yall are crazy. Merk is an an 8 win season. This is the landscape of nil. Minor league football. If we don't have the money to pay him. Someone else will.
You lose 3/4 of the team if you increase his deal by $1mil+.

NIL isn't the problem, it's having zero restrictions on it and the transfer portal that gives them the option to even further exploit it. Just like everything it needs guardrails.
The only reason these kids a transferring is MONEY. If not for the money there would be no more transfers than there were years ago. The occasional family issue, more playing time, moving with his coach to another school, just not fitting in. These kinds of things. If you think these kids aren’t leaving for money you are lost. Wise up sir

Yep, free transfer is what's killing college football, not NIL. Get a hold on the transfer portal, and NIL will work itself out through the free market system.
Nope. There are none so blind,as those who will not see. All of these transfers are happening because of money. That’s all….MONEY
