USA Today Projects Dobbs...

Different level of competition for Pitt and Memphis. They could not beat out Dobbs to be a starting QB in the SEC so they bailed for other schools.

Stop trying to make it seem like a coaching issue. Dobbs won the QB position and has put forth stats in four years that rival the best QBs (sans Manning) ever to play at Tennessee.

Ferguson actually did beat out Dobbs.

Dobbs had some great stats, but lets not go overboard in comparison to UT greats. He's not within sniffing distance of Robinson, Shuler or even Casey Clausen.

Josh Dobbs is 2nd all-time in UT history when it comes to total TDs. He's 3rd all-time in UT history when it comes to total yards. The leader in both categories is Peyton Manning. However, Manning played in 45 games at Tennessee while Dobbs played in only 37.

On a per game basis, Josh Dobbs averaged more total yards per game and total TDs per game than Peyton Manning.

This idea that Josh isn't the 2nd greatest QB in the history of Tennessee football (by a fairly wide margin) is simply not supported by the data. Only Peyton Manning is ahead of Dobbs on the all-time list.

Some people just cannot grasp the thought of how much Dobbs put up here. Just because he wasn't the sharpest passer turns em off. He literally carried this team on his back some games. HE put up great numbers. He did all he could do. There were 10 other guys on the field with him that could have helped even more...

Purely from a stats perspective this is a no brainer. When you factor in the O-lines he played behind and the situation he was in then anyone not giving the kid his props earns a SMH.

Dobbs won about as many games as was possible given the situation. Hell if you really look at it in his time at UT only 1 L can be squarely put on his back. USC this year. On the other hand EVERY win he played in he carried the load. I honestly do not think there is anything more that could have been expected from the kid. He put everything he had on the line every game he started. The numbers prove it.

His stats say different. He will at some point by those who refuse to give him his due be recognized in the same manner as those you named.

I seriously don't understand why "so called VOL fans" don't want to give Josh Dobbs the recognition he deserves. Do you all hate the coach so much that you can't give recognition to a player he recruited?????

And the thing is his stats are basically for 3 seasons - yes he played in 4 but the number of games from the first 2 is 1 game less than a full season.

Had he played 4 complete seasons, if not injured he would have more than likely passed Clausen in the total offense category.

You apparently didn't read my post. I said Dobbs' stats were great. Still, he isn't Tony Robinson by any standard. Those guys had to use audibles on a regular basis. They also played the position from under center. In short, the QB of that offense had to have more command than in the current UT offense

Exactly. People are blaming him for Butch Jones shortcomings because he is gone and Butch is still here.

Josh Dobbs is not the reason Tennessee football failed to live up to expectations the last two years. That was Butch Jones.

Except for CBJ saying that Dobbs passed RF before he was hurt several times. Dobbs won the job. Injury or not he was the next guy up when he first started.

Not exactly, Jones always said that Peterman, Worley, and Ferguson were battling for the starting job in 2013. Ferguson was always right behind Peterman as the coaches were going to redshirt Dobbs.
