USA Today Poll

Why the discrepancy? USA Today is coaches poll correct? I guess AP media are hyping us up for College Gameday but coaches are still skeptical until we beat a ranked team.

IMO the discrepancy is that the AP voters had a knee jerk reaction to arkansas, wisconsin and nebraska, whereas the coaches understand you can lose one game and still be a good football team.

All early polls suck, and most late ones do. Political horseshiz. People have ND, Louisville, Michigan and the like ahead of us and there is no rationale for it. Polling situation just blows.

coaches don't vote or watch games that don't directly affect them. Also more likely to show a bias

I guess we're going to find out Sat why a team that threw for 162 yards and averaged 3.0 ypc vs. a Big 12 team (TAMU) is a top 20 team

Usually it's an asst coach or the SID that fills out the ballot. Very few coaches actually take the time to vote.

Considering we only beat an unranked NC State team and Georgia State I understand why a lot of polls don't think we deserve to be in the top 25. But after this weekend, there will be no question.

Ole Miss getting 3 votes tells me all that I need to know. But like others have said, keep winning and we'll be fine.

I agree. We may be good, but we really haven't proven it.

After this week, however . . .

GBO !

The problem with the Coaches Poll is that many of the coaches don't even do the voting. They pass the task off to some flunky on their staff, so it's not a true representation of what the coaches think. The AP poll is compiled by biased media voters, so it's not that reliable either. In any case, the Vols need to shore up our defense to insure that we continue to rise in the polls, especially the all-important BCS Poll to come later. Go Vols!
