USA Today hates the Vols.... 33rd in Preseaon Poll

Ah, thanks MsCelina. So the article begs these questions (which its author, Paul Myerberg, never answers):

1. What the heck is a re-rank? and,
2. What is the re-rank's relationship to the actual USAToday coaches' poll? and,
3. Why should we care about the re-rank at all?

One thing's for sure. OP, this isn't USAToday ... they already did their pre-season poll. This is just one dude who writes for USAToday.

It's August and this team, coming off a very mediocre season, has proven absolutely nothing. All the hype about what we could do, what we might do means absolutely nothing. If we play good football and stack the wins they'll have no choice but to amend their rankings as the season goes along. Until then, who cares?

So Boise State and Stanford go from 20's to top 10. LSU goes from 13 to 27. Makes perfect sense. Sounds more like an Anti-SEC list than anything. 8 top 25 teams down to 5.

The AP Poll comes out on Aug. 23rd. However, here is one of the pollsters rankings. And he has Tennessee at 25 for his AP ballot. I figure we'll be right about there on the AP preseason too. But as everyone else is stating. It really doesn't mean much until we start playing. It does, however, help us jump in the rankings quicker the higher we start. But keep winning and it wont matter.

GOOD. I'd rather we earn a top 25 ranking. Destroying an ill-prepared Iowa team doesn't really get you there. Also keep in mind we nearly let Vandy get away from us (Dobbs w/ 2 picks, nearly 3 and threw for less than 100 yards - it was ugly) in the last game of the regular season.

Memphis at 35, Vandy at 121 hahahaha. Seriously, laughing at Vandy never, ever gets old.

This is good for motivation. I cant say I agree. But I'm happy with it.

My grandfather says he would rather be trailing by a touchdown at halftime that leading by a touchdown. Cant say I agree completely but motivation and drive come from being the underdog, not the odds-on favorite.

I sure hope the Vols are better than 33 in post-season polls, though.

You guys worry too much about external validation. Respect has to be won on the field.
