Urban Meyer speaks highly of Tennessee job.

Though I sort of like Kiffin despite himself, NO! Once a quitter, always a quitter. Same as that Urban Liar fellow.

Won't relitigate it, but absolutely no one would call a coach a quitter if they left a school after one year to come to Tennessee as to coach if they called Tennessee "was their dream job."

Another possibility is he sees the UT as run by dumb hicks who let you get rich off them and if already rich, filthy rich off them. Come down, sign a lucrative contract, half coach if at all for a few years, quit or get fired, go home and enjoy the money you suckered out of us. Stay away from this guy.
See, I agree he is looking to grift us, but your logic is flawed. I don't think his own pride would let him "half coach" and look bad. Also, if he came here and was not able to turn things around, that would be a ding to his reputation, hurting his ability to do the same thing in the future. I think he would come here, get things turned around, and then bail as soon as he could.

And Meyer?????????????????????????

OTAY.

I would call him many things (including a mediocre HC), but quitter would be down the list of things to call him. Yes, he bailed on us after 1 year. Again, if the administration wasn't incompetent, it would have been but a minor setback. We had just won 7 games. Based on stories that have come out since, there was interest from a number of coaches, who have gone on to do well since.

And Meyer?????????????????????????

I would not want Meyer. I think what he walked into at OSU/UF is lightyears beyond what he, or any other coach for that matter, would walk into here after firing a coach in year 2.

I also don't buy he would be here longer than 3-5 years as he has medical issues.

I think the biggest lapse in judgement was the buyout amount for him to go to USC. I believe it was less than a million. Had we made it say 4-5 million, we could have easily taken that money and used it to buyout his staff leftovers. Remember, the hold up with someone like Cutcliffe was he couldn't bring his guys and the new coach would have to keep the Kiffin leftovers.

That was the biggest issue with the search in my mind than us not interviewing folks.

Best we stay away from him. Give Pruitt at least another year or two. If he doesn't pan out, go after a real coach if we can afford to do that. But demand his staff be competent proven. Examples: A proven DC, proven OL & DL coaches, and so on. Sure the HC will have his favorites in these areas but we can't afford ineffective hanger ons. But for the nonce, get behind Pruitt and support him. Like coaches before him, including Kiffin, he walked into an untreated cesspool of a program here. You can't wave a magic wand and make it suddenly better.

I am not a big Urban Meyer fan, but the guy was 84-9 at Ohio State. What can you say!!! Everywhere he has been he was a winner. That is the facts. We, as volunteer fans hate his success, but all teams have their dirty laundry, even us. I think it is all jealousy.

He had Cardale Jones, a number 3 quarterback, yes, a number 3 quarterback, and a pro sstyle quarterback when they barreled through (including Bama) the first playoff in 2014. C'mon now

I do not think CUM is ever going to coach a down at UT, so this is moot point IMO. However, if he did, all I am saying is he would do better than 5-7 in his first two years. If he got back into coaching, he is instantly the second-best coach in CFB behind Saban. You can argue Dabo but Urban is more accomplished than Dabo. I can almost guarantee you that Urban would land a top five dual threat QB in his first class if he ever coached at UT since we are dealing in hypotheticals here.

He’s a better coach than Pruitt is he not? He had won at Bowling Green, Utah, Florida and Ohio State. Why wouldn’t we want him over what we have?

I think the only complaint people would have is his “questionable morals”.

The guy could do great here. I’m not sure what an Urban Meyer rebuild looks like but I’ve seen what his program looks like once it hits its stride. Questionable players. National titles. And kicking your rivals arse all over the field.

Hard to turn it down after the last 2 games honestly. Assuming Fulmer would even offer him.

OSU is also one of the top 10 jobs...maybe he just stays there?
Not happening.

You don't realize Urban is no longer the OSU coach do you?

It's crazy to think he wouldn't immediately turn it around here. He took over 2-9 Bowling Green and won 8 and 9 games his first two years. Took over 5-6 Utah and went 10-2 and 12-0. Took over 7-5 Florida and went 9-3 and then 13-1. Took over 6-7 Ohio State and went 12-0 and averaged over 12 wins a year his whole OSU run. I wouldn't argue if someone said he was equal with Saban. At worst he's the 2nd best coach since Tom Osborne retired.

If Pruitt fails, I'm not so sure Fulmer would be making the next hire. We know Fulmer's move if Jeremy has to go. It's his only move on the board. Can you imagine ol' Jimmy Haslam throwing the bank to buy Pruitt out and bring Urban Meyer in to get his throne back? That'd be one hell of a power move, and he'd have unbelievable leverage in that situation. If there's one thing we've all learned in our years around Tennessee athletics, it's nothing is shocking and expect the unexpected.

Even with winning, I don't want Meyer. He may come in and win, but, he will leave it worse than when he entered. We need to improve to stay relevant, and stay relevant once we do.

Plus, Haslam is just as responsible for our predicament as anyone. The family can keep donating as they wish, but, they do not run the athletic department. Remember this last fiasco, thank the Haslam's for pushing their agenda and Schiano.

We've ridden this train off the rails, and we have made our bed. We have no option but for Pruitt to succeed. If he doesn't, really, how far have we fallen at that point. The only reason we have a chance at recruiting right now is because of the staff and who they are. We need to hope they live up to the billing.

Put down the sauce....

He'd identify a transfer that could fill the void. Hell, we had several out there we could have brought in this year, but we hitched our wagon to JG and now we're paying the price.
Really? Who could we have brought in here?

If Urban were hired, he would be gone in 3-4 years and the admin would screw up the replacement. This goes beyond the coach. It's time for a house cleaning from top to bottom. That is only going g to happen with a powerful message from the fans. This garbage is unwatchable...stop spending money on this nonsense. No excuse for people to make the money these people are making and put this bad of a product on the field. Most hs coaches could have called a better game than called last night. When the tv announcer is predicting your play with 95% accuracy, there is a problem.
I’ll be quite shocked if a Power 5 job opens up again soon and he jumps on it. As for TN never happening. Even if the powers that be hired him he would resign within 2-3 years because the fans would run him out the door and I’m probably not lying about that....

I listened to Jimmy Hyams/Tim Irwin radio show this morning.
Hyams said that Meyer made some comments about UT when he was asked about our decline.
He said it’s hard to understand because we are one of the best ten places in the country and that recruiting has gotten easier because of Nashville’s growth. Said Neyland is loudest place he’s ever coached.
