Utah's Urban Meyer has been offered the Florida coaching job and is expected to accept it later Friday, the Florida Times-Union reported on its website.

Meyer's salary package is expected to be in excess of $2 million annually, one source said.

Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley denied that the school had reached an agreement with Meyer.

"The search is in progress," Foley told the newspaper. "The search is progressing."

A source close to the Utah coaching situation, however, told the Times-Union that Meyer met with Foley in Salt Lake City on Thursday, and Foley offered Meyer the job then. Meyer also met with Notre Dame officials on Thursday.

A source close to the UF coaching search said he expects Meyer to take the job, but Meyer wants to tell the Utah administration and players about his plans first.

If Florida did get Meyer they paid more than 2mil. I heard only ND and Michigan were the only schools that would not have to buy out his contract.

ND, Mich, and Ohio State are the three that don't have to buyout his contract.

I think it's a smart move -- why go to a struggling independent team that needs to make schedule changes/etc., especially with all the recent discussion regarding academic standards and BCS computations.

Florida is a ripe opportunity for a coach of his calliber. Coming off some disappointment with Zook, he'll have them running-and-gunning before long and poor old Stevie and the other Cocks will be stuck at #4 in the SEC East. I feel so sorry for him I could almost cry.

ESPN.com has it reported. I know everything they print is not the gospel truth, but this seems pretty reliable. Welcome to the SEC, Coach. Don't expect to go 11-0 your first season here.

He is a smart man. I was actually suprised to hear that he might go to ND over FL. He will be dangerous at Florida and that means the SEC East could have a two or three loss champion the next few years because it will be very tough. Great for the conference if he does come though. He will make the toughest conference in America even tougher.

Alot of people have posted regarding Meyer's ability to recruit to Utah and how much better he would be able to do at Florida. I agree, that recruiting at Florida will be much easier.... however, after looking over his coaching record... I don't think he's been anywhere long enough to really have too much affect in the overall recruiting. Apparantly there was some talent at both Bowling Green and Utah when he took over... and he just plugged in some key positions to upgrade the offense.

His winning percentage is very close to Fulmer's... however, winning in the MAC and MWC is alot different than the SEC. I don't doubt he's a good coach, but there are already good coaches in the SEC and I don't believe in miracle workers when it comes to coaching football. With the talent at Florida... if the players stay... its good enough for Meyer to win 8 or 9 games next season.

With the ACC vs. Big Ten challenge for basketball, we need to have something similar for football. The SEC East vs. Big XII South Series for the opening game of the season. What does everybody think?

If there were some sort of playoff where 1 loss would not kill a team's National Championship hopes, that kind of thing would be cool milo.

How many UF players jump ship when they find out about his bootcamp practices and his intolerance for THUGS!
