Here is a good article about what happened to an LSU recruit last year. Urban lost him to LSU and then questioned the kids ACT.

Top-rated DB recruit tackles ACT again - NOLA.com

Johnson said. "Florida made an issue about the ACT score. They're cowards. They had to go behind my back. But that's OK. We play them this year"

I always think this stinks. A kid works to bring up their score and then get hammered.

My son was sick for the October ACT and still got a 30/36 - math/english. He just retook this past week. I guess if his math goes up he could be flagged for cheating.

Well, this seems like a pretty good place to post the relevant excerpt from Meat Market:

(this is in the context of explaining why one of Orgeron's coaches knew that it was important to establish trust with Snead and his parents)

Snead had committed to Florida during his junior year of high school, after Gators coach Urban Meyer told him they weren't going to be recruiting any other quarterbacks. Great -- just what a blue-chip recruit wants to hear: no one standing in his way to becoming as good as he can be.

Then later that fall, Snead clicked on ESPN's Outside the Lines and caught a segment on Tim Tebow, a touted quarterback recruit from Florida. Interesting, he thought. Cool to see a guy going through the same stuff he'd gone through. But when the cameras panned up into the crowd at Tebow's game and focused on Meyer and his offensive coordinater, Dan Mullen, Snead was stunned.

Snead called Meyer the next day and asked about Tebow.

"Oh, don't worry about that," Meyer assured him. "We're only recruiting him as a linebacker."

Snead wanted to believe him because he wanted to go to Florida, but at that point, his high school coach interceded. "We may have been born at night, but it wasn't last night, [high school coach Chad] Morris said later, recalling the situation. "Jevan was too dear to me to let something like that happen to him."

"Urban prides himself in doing things the right way," Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley reiterated.

Just because you're a good football coach, it doesn't mean you're a good person.

Rush Propst is a living example of that. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have Rush Propst for my high school team, but that doesn't necessarily mean I'd entrust him with my kid.

Man you guys will believe anything.... we've had this argument before. The player decides to take the test in some random location... the ACT score jumps 10 POINTS and the NCAA puts a flag on his record because that's just ridiculous. It pretty sad to hear how gullible you guys really are. Think for a second and maybe you'll realize that everything that happens in the SEC isn't always because of Urban... except of course winning championships!

Keep making me laugh... i love it! :pepper:

Well here is a better example of the great NCAA. The Jerrell Powe kid from Ole Miss has ADD.

The first time he took the test he bombed. He took a 10 week review course -- how to take the test. Then he was allowed to retake the test with a reader in a quiet room, he went up 6 points. The NCAA flagged his test and he missed a year of football.

So much for trying to pick yourself up off the ground.

Also, the NCAA having issues with test scores in one thing -- having a coach take the time to point out scores for other teams recruites is another.

The only reason Urban had the kids test scores is that he was thinking of going to Florida. Once he went to LSU Urban used the scores against him. I'm not sure if that is even legal with the confidental nature of records these days -- but it unethical in my book.

"Jerrell really is a good child, but he just can't read."

I just can't take him seriously at all after his own mom said that about him.

Thats exactly what i mean... a guy from ole miss retakes the test and his score goes up by 6 points and even though the NCAA flags it you dont hear anyone complain. Then another players score go up by almost double that amount (10 points) and everone blames urban for the NCAA flagging his score. Lets try to use some common sense when accusing another coach of cheating... wait nevermind.

No, really, what exactly do you mean? The original article states his scores went from a 16 to a 22. That is six points, not the 10 that you incomprehensibly keep repeating and, as the article reports, Meyer questioned the scores only after he committed to LSU.

Let me ask this, after the increase in ACT score did Florida quit recruiting this kid? Doubt it. If he had signed with UF, would Meyer still have had an issue with the test scores? Of course not.

Top-rated DB recruit tackles ACT again
Floridian still committed to LSU

LSU's top-rated football recruit, cornerback Patrick Johnson of Blanche Ely High School in Pompano Beach, Fla., said he still plans to join the Tigers even though he was unable to begin school this week as expected after his ACT score was questioned by the NCAA.

Johnson, the nation's top-rated defensive back and No. 2 overall defensive prospect by Rivals.com, said he took the ACT again Thursday and is awaiting results in hope of registering for the spring semester by the deadline next Thursday.

"I'm still coming to LSU," Johnson said Friday via telephone from his Pompano Beach home. "(ACT officials) are trying to get me out and get everything cleared up. I was good to go regardless. I just had to take it again for the writing portion."

Johnson said he took the ACT three times before Thursday, scoring 22 in October after 16s on his first two.

Johnson said Florida, one of his top three choices (along with Florida State) before he settled on LSU, questioned his academic eligibility with the NCAA. ACT officials subsequently reviewed his test results and "flagged" the October score.

"I'm not upset," Johnson said. "Florida made an issue about the ACT score. They're cowards. They had to go behind my back. But that's OK. We play them this year (on Oct. 11 at Florida)."

Johnson, who committed to LSU on Jan. 5, had expected to arrive in Baton Rouge by Wednesday to begin taking classes and participate in spring practice with an eye toward earning a spot on the two-deep depth chart.

If Johnson does not meet Thursday's registration deadline, he still can sign with LSU on Feb. 6, national signing day, in anticipation of joining the Tigers in the fall.

"Everything is going to be cleared up," Johnson said.

Why would you ask me a question is you seem to know all the answers? Anyway i'll go ahead and help you out. How many college sports have you played in? Have you ever been involved in any D-1 sport? Didn't think so... you assume urban is guilty of turning in a kid just cause some 18 year old said so. The truth is ANYTIME a score jumps 10 points (and thats how many) the NCAA will automaticaly flag it. Not cause of urban. I get what you guys are trying to do but your accusation is just pathetically wrong. These are the facts my man but you are entitled to your opinion even if its completely wrong. Later.

I still can't believe you don't know the difference between 16 and 22 is 6 points, not 10

Thought you might need this since you seem to have trouble with basic math.

Why is it relevant whether or not someone has been involved in D-1 sports or not?? Urban is a low life who calls recruits' girlfriends... calls recruits while their on official visits to other schools.... and apparently questions kids' ACT scores when they commit elsewhere... Take your comments defending Urban elsewhere!! Gayyyyytor suck!!

Urban Meyer is a snake and a jerk. He came out looking like the good guy because he didn't break any NCAA or SEC rules with his ridiculous tactics of calling Richardson 20 times while on his official at UT. Kiffin has been slammed by the media while Meyer looks like the good guy running a tight ship. I personally think he and Foley are both scum.

here's my personal ACT story:

first time i took it I got a 20.

i re-took it the next time it was offered and I got a 26.

Principal at my school (who didn't like me) accused me of cheating and advised me to re-take it under supervision so they could make sure I didn't cheat.

The third time i took it I got a 30.

HA!

you are a huge tool and a moron. the NCAA does not flag scores unless another institution (i.e. a school) requests that it be investigated. and once again, using basic math, 22-16=6. urban meyer is a great coach, but he sucks at life. later GAYtor. :the_finger:
