Urban is out - When do we beat Florida?

Are you really trying to sell that an in state kid signed in February 1995 after Peyton Manning's freshman year because he was so impressed and just had to play with him? I don't doubt that Manning had an impact on recruiting due to his and the program's success . . . but I'm sure we first started recruiting Al Wilson well before Peyton Manning ever stepped foot on campus.

...and besides, who gets credit for convincing Manning to sign with Tennessee? Heath Shuler?

Well I'm sold based on past quotes by Wilson and the staff that recruited the 95 and 96 classes. I like Fulmer. I give him the credit along with Cutcliffe for bringing in Manning. But FUlmer's failure to duplicate even one more SEC championship says it all.

OK, I think we pretty much agree. Fulmer struck gold when he hired Cutcliffe who recruited Manning. Urban struck gold when he got Tebow. Whatever...

It's really tragic since I liked Fulmer, that he was an absolute lost puppy w/o them and proceeded to employ two of the worst offensive coordinators ever as the incompetence increased year after year. Getting Cutcliffe back saved him temporarily. When Cutcliffe left, the handwriting was on the wall. So yeah Phil Fulmer, amazing CEO skills...

You probably think Larry Coker was an amazing coach too...

I do of course realize that the great coaches get the great players, but they do it consistently over years and years. Coker wasn't great and, to a lesser extent, neither was Fulmer. And I believe the same thing would have been revealed about Meyer.

Oh, and no name calling man. it's not cool. Some people get upset.

Coker started doing poorly as soon as Butch Davis' recruits left and it was evident he couldn't get it done recruiting or as a game day coach. Meyer has had literally one bad season at 3 different schools over a 10 year period. How can you say this is evidence that he was on the decline? Also, you said Tim Tebow is a once in a generation talent. What does that make Cam Newton, who was originally enrolled at Florida? Do you think Florida would have gone 7-5 this year with Cam Newton as their quarterback?

When everyone is pointing out obvious flaws in your argument maybe you should take a step back and try to look at things objectively.

Ultimately they will get a good coach with championship pedigree and keep their recruiting on lockdown -- it's Florida.

Except for the unlikely event they bomb on this hire, whoever steps in will probably win the east with relative ease next year.

Florida will still have plenty of talent but to act like losing the second best coach the SEC has seen this decade won't hurt is dumb. Just dumb.

I shouldn't have said that about Tebow. That being said, Tebow was great and I really do doubt that Meyer could keep a Tebowesque QB at the helm. But I am only somewhat confident that Urban is not a great coach. Maybe I'm an optimist but I saw vulnerability there. Now, I'm not sure. But I could have been wrong about that. Meyer may have turned it around.. I just don't always agree with popular opinion.

But there is no doubt in my mind about what I am saying about Fulmer. I really and truly believe that Peyton Manning was the number one reason we won the National Title in 98 even as he was throwing rookie picks at Indy. He was the reason we had all world talent. I'll go to my grave believing it.

If Im UF this is my choice.

i think it will be mullen. there are several reasons which i posted on one of the threads having to do with meyer.

we'll see.

i'm not really worried about it. i assume we will have a good coach and good players until i see otherwise.

if anyone said 2010 would be like this, i would have bet the farm they were wrong.

Sorry if this has been addressed. Any chance they bring back the ball coach? I think it'd be a lot of fun.

You're entitled to your opinion so I guess we'll just disagree. One major negative about Urban Meyer is his stubbornness or whatever you want to call it. He tried to force his pro style QB to play an option offense and stuck with his OC when it was obvious changes needed to be made

1) SOS is will be 66 when the season starts.
2) Doubt SOS would work for Foley after the way he was treated the last time the job was open.

I don't see any reason why Dan Mullen will not be the next head coach at UF. They are gonna offer if they haven't already, and he would be crazy not to take it. Looks like he was the reason for Florida's offensive success as it turns out. Tebow was a large part, but Mullen recruited him. If Mullen does go, Florida will be better under him than under Meyer, IMO.

2 national championships and almost 3 if it wasn't for saban.... I don't see Mullen topping that.

Mullen won't be able to resist if he is offered the job. Don't see how he could exceed Urban's record though.

They have averaged about 10.5 wins a season for 5 years. How much more consistency do you need to see?

That's with Timmy tebow. Those type of Players come along once every 10

Why is everyone afraid of Mullen? He's done OK with Miss St. Mullen wasn't all that at great at Florida either. He received a lot of heat his last year there. Tim Tebow covers a multitude of sins. I say get him, that way florida will stay in the middle of the road for awhile.

x 1,000,000.

The Mullen-Meyer offense sans Tebow is seriously lacking.

I'd say we'd have a fair chance of beating them in the Swamp next year... even when Meyer comes back after he unretires before Christmas.

this is the best news for UT in years. Richt will be out at Ga after another bad year, spurrier will be retiring soon---dooley will rule the SEC east--book it.
