Urban is out - When do we beat Florida?

Florida was on a rapid decline the past two seasons. Meyer lost his enthusiasm and his offense was horrible.

I look for Stoops, Mullen, and maybe Peterson to get calls from the college ranks. Don;t be surprised if Garry Kubiak does not get a call.

There is nothing to fear from anyone who coaches Florida.

Florida is a big job with a very enviable recruiting base. They'll hire somebody good and continue to kick our ass, no doubt. I'm sorry to say it. Offensively, we'll always be behind Florida because their offensive system is always far more creative than ours. It was with spurrier and it was with meyer. Combine that with the athletes they get from that state and they are tough to beat.

Did you forget that loser they hired between Spurrier and Meyer?
How about that idiot that Michigan hired. Florida is not guaranteed a winning coach. I can't wait for this upcoming season.

I've said it before (around the office) and I'll say it here now --- if Miss State is smart, they figure out a way to offer Mullen more than Saban makes at Bama.

Malzahn's lack of HC experience might be enough to make UF hesitate on him...

But overall.. yeah, I suspect it just comes down to those two.

I'm not at all convinced that Stoops would go back to UF.
Not convinced Peterson would leave Boise (unless his ego demands a NC)
Not convinced (for some reason) that Patterson would be that attractive to Foley.

--- does Patterson have any ties/connections to UF/Florida area at all?

I can never see that happening.

Yeah, I couldnt imagine them even being able to afford to do that. Bama couldn't even afford Saban until they dug into student fees. Sadly, MSU is just a stepping block into something bigger like UF.

Really? How about Petrino? His name has come up as a possibility. That would not be good for the east.

Ultimately they will get a good coach with championship pedigree and keep their recruiting on lockdown -- it's Florida.

Except for the unlikely event they bomb on this hire, whoever steps in will probably win the east with relative ease next year.

I couldn't disagree more.

Who's in their way? Us? No. Georgia? Hardly. South Carolina? They had their best year in program history, and went 5-3 in conference.

Florida is still easily the most talented team in the division, but they obviously had plenty of coaching issues.

A new coach who can put together a good staff and has a vision WILL be playing in Atlanta next year.

Two of South Carolina's three losses were to teams playing in BCS bowls, they don't lose much, and they get the Gators in Columbia next year. Right now, they're the favorites.

Uhh, this is not wonderful news guys. I know, I know, two national championships, but that was then. Tim Tebow is a once in a generation talent. The Meyer system can work in the SEC, but not consistently. It must have a fullback with a cannon playing QB. My guess is that this actually increases UF's 2011 win total.

I completely agree. Meyer had lost his edge this year. I thought UT had a good shot next year (not a great one, mind you) at UF. Depending on the coach and their talent, I think it is way more up for grabs in favor of UF (lots of ifs)

That idiot that Michigan hired did a darn fine job at WVU. He is starting close to 7 freshman on defense. Given a bit more time, that idiot will do just fine. Society today is so instant gratification that no coach will be given enough time before he is called an idiot.

Did you see their O this year???? The past is not always the future. Did you see Bray and Hunter/Rogers? Give Chaney his players and time!

Lowe stated yesterday..."Mississippi State is working on a new deal to keep Mullen in Starkville. His name was linked to the Miami job, but he said Sunday he plans on being at Mississippi State for a long time." Of course he said that when linked to the Miami positon...wonder if he regrets that statement. Different deal with FL knocking...I can see it now, Saban II.

If you ask me, Urban surrounded himself with great assistants and players. When they left (Strong/Mullen/Tebow), so did the results...and his health. Florida will get a great coach, some recruits will bail, some new ones will come. Great time to have Dooley and some mojo!

Florida will get a good coach, but will that coach be able to get the right assistants.

Why do people always say this? You do realize Cam Newton was enrolled at Florida and only left after numerous run ins with police/administration, right? How much better do you think Cam Newton would make Florida this year?

Thats a good question I was wondering the same thing. Would he take the job though? And how would he do there?

He wouldn't take the job, IMHO. I would be willing to bet he will retire from USCjr. He would do great at UF. Look at what he has done with the Gamecocks. I believe the reason he left was the same reason Meyer is leaving. Once you win a NC at UF, they(their fans) expect it every year instead of appreciating what they got.
